Been fixing and updating my mom's laptop.

Everything seems to be working again but it seems some updates changed how the start menu looks. Managed to get rid of a whole lot of useless stuff that would confuse my mom and would probably result in her calling me.

Now, I'm trying to find out how to default to the option that shows the text descriptors next to the icons and remove the pinned tabs icon or at the very least have the menu default to the text option.

Google searches have only been helpful upto here, anyone know what option I'm looking for?

I know Soma. Part of the Windows experience is unfortunately damage control and finding alternatives for their screw-ups. (or perhaps innovations...)

I have no idea which ones the live tiles are, use W7 and 8 myself.

To the left of the programme list in that picture are icons, that used to have text and now only have text if one selects the three bars icon at the top, it does seem like you got rid of some of the icons on the left.

those icons should be self explanatory, so i'm not super sure why you'd want them to say what they are or if that's even important. either way, you can't have them say what they are constantly.

as for the live tiles, those are what they call the, well, tiles to the right. you can just right click and remove them.

Already did that before I think, and they did not come back after the updates.

That;s unfortunate.

But how did you get rid of the pinned programmes button? The button remains there for me, but since no programmes are pinned, it is just empty.

Under the three lines icon there are also an all programmes icon and a pinned programmes icon.
