A movie version was always doomed to be shit, even if they tried.

Trailer shows they didn't try, though.

Regardless, ill be there to see it. I want it to succeed so they will go through with the show, or miniseries, whatever they have planned.

I feel like this is going to be like Netflix Castlevania, a good teaser to set up future projects.

That's just an excuse for it being shit that has next to nothing to do with the Dark Tower as a conceptualization, but just uses the names, concepts and terminology to hook the fans.

I think it takes place in another "turn/cycle" or whatever you want to call it. After a certain something occurred in the books at the end.

The director's pretty good, though as far as I'm aware this is his first big budget Hollywood shlockfest. He usually makes smaller political films.

Nicholson was poorly cast for the movie. You take one look at him and know that Jack is gonna lose his mind, and there's no sympathy to his character at all. It's not a story about a man being driven crazy by the influences of the hotel, it's a story about an already crazy man who just kinda drops the pretense as the story progresses.

I don't necessarily mean that the director wasn't good, but that the Dark Tower is a multi-layered story, that might not translate well to film.

and even if it could, it looks like it's being billed as an action movie, which is only a small part of the series.

I'm holding out hope, though, since I really want the movie to succeed.

I don't really get the complaints about the run time, the first book, if I remember correctly, was less than 250 pages in length. Certainly less than 300 pages. It was a pretty short story.

But yeah, the movie doesn't look very promising. Just from seeing the trailer, it looks like a mess. I kind of like the overall idea of it but it's also kind of dumb because only fans that read the whole series until the end would understand it, and it looks like it's not trying very hard to appeal to the fans.

Casting is fine. Elba is a cool dude. I think people that say otherwise might just be a little racist. Roland being white is not that integral to the story. Except one to one character, but that is something that can be left out and not that much is lost.

If movie sucks it will be due to writers or Hollywood being Hollywood and not letting them do what they want to do with the movie
