Eight of the 12 Universes are in an epic battle royale to determine which one of the Universes will survive (while the others will be deemed weak and wiped out). Universe 9 was the first to be erased.

Of course, since Super takes place before "End of Z", we all know that Universe 7 (the "main" Universe) will survive in one way or another.

Also, Goku recruited Frieza to be on their team. Frieza is already plotting something with Frost (Universe 6's "Frieza"). The "Legendary Super Saiyan" thing from the Broly movies is canon, via a shy Saiyan girl from Universe 6 named Kale who triggers it when the girl she's in love with (Caulifa) ignores her in favor of a male.

Jiren (the guy set up as Goku's rival, the strongest guy on Universe 11's team and possibly in the entire Tournament) is a dumbass who could not eliminate Kale when it made sense to, leading to 5 members of his team getting eliminated next episode.

Freezer is back. So is Hit. Female Broly beats up on Goku but then gets one shotted by the main rival of the arc.

just watch the 2 movies and then skip to the U6 tournament. it's pretty short. then you can watch the goku black arc if you want. then just skip to the start of the tournament of power which is like episode 96? 97? something around there.

i'll make up a quick episode list

universe 6 tournament - episodes 33-40

goku black - 47-66 if you just wanna watch the final battle then 61-66

ToP starts at 97

there is an exhibition match before the ToP but nothing important happens for it. then it's like a bunch of recruitment eps.

then it's basically filler between goku black an the start of the ToP.
