I don't see your point. Nothing in that implied that you shouldn't study on your own. My point is that sometimes there are larger concepts professors won't even cover at all. I had to teach myself SN1/SN1 and E1/E2 reactions and parts of stereochemistry back in sophomore year of college because of an inept professor. Ideally your professor should give you at least the foundation or background of a topic you're intended to know for an exam. Believe me, I worked my ass off at times studying.
