Ya. Is there a reason they shouldn't get compensation?

Having a Meltdown: The Topic

Yes, I'm melting down because there is a shocking number of people who don't believe in "innocent until proven guilty" and imprisoning people without trial. This is something that legitimately upsets me because I believe wholeheartedly in rule of law. To make arbitrary exceptions to that, to me, is heavily unprincipled and would show that I really don't care about justice and fairness for people.

At the time of his imprisonment, was it up for debate whether or not he had committed acts of terrorism and murdered people? Or was it known as undeniable facts?

Of course not TC, no country should ever be expected to adhere to their own laws nor should they face any consequence for violating human rights

The only thing there was definitive proof of was assembling IEDs. Those IEDs were confirmed by the US to have not killed anyone when retrieved, so you could have charged him with whatever you wanted, but the only thing that would stick is material support for terrorism. Had Omar Khadr been in a Canadian court, he would definitely have been found guilty of that and imprisoned.

Yes, they do.

This.

Unless there exists undeniable proof of their involvement of whatever crime but I'd say take the 10 years of detained time off of their sentence. So if they were sentenced to 15 years, theyd only serve 5 more.

good question, TC.

unfortunately many people tend to flip flop, cherry pick and show overt bias in these situations.

in general I'm sure the average person will agree. but let it be somebody they have contempt for and you'll typically see a change in perception.

Omar Khadr is the context of this topic. You've probably heard the name in the news recently because it's been a really divisive issue in Canada and the US.
