@CountessRolab
@LordBalor4

So I want to get a credit card that has 5% cash back on gas and groceries for the first year. Then it goes to 2% back after that and I want to cancel it then. I need to know what the downsides would be.

Really all you need to know is pay the balance off every month or if possible every week.

Credit cards are actually ridiculously easy to manage so long as you dot sped frivolously and pay them off on time. IF you do carry a balance thats no good as the interest makes getting the cash back essentially worthless.

Slight ding on your credit report, but will heal after a few months. Not really an issue.
Like already mentioned, just pay it off every month so you dont pay interest. My main concern is that that sounds like a kind of crappy card. There are cards out there that will give you a $500+ bonus just for signing up. Does that one even have an upfront signup bonus?

Yeah I know that. I'm more worried about hurting my credit when I cancel.

Churning is really just about getting signup bonuses. The card I got last month had $800 worth of airline freebies.
