It's in the mid to upper 90s. My car reads at well above 100, though.

If the fan doesn't even turn on it's probably the fan fuse, not the compressor. Look in your manual and it will have a chart or a picture that says which does what. Pull it out and if it looks burned then it's bad go buy another one. They're ultra cheap

the panel tells you your fuses. look to see if the ac fuse is blown. you should have a few spare fuses. if not you'll have to buy some. but if you really have no idea what you're doing you could take it to a shop for an estimate. hopefully find one that'll inspect for cheap/free.

i been driving for a decade and only had AC for like a year of that. first car had no AC. 2nd had it the first year and then i have a freon leak and could never figure out where it was from. but never took it to a shop to get fixed since never wanted to spend the money since it only sucks when it's 90+ out. if it's in the 80s just having windows down is plenty.

Okay, cool. I just found it and checked the ac fuse. It was fine. Lemme check the fan fuse, I didn't see that one.

The coolant is one issue itself, but the fan seems to be another.

My car did say it has some spare fuses in the back.

Yah, fuses are cheap enough that you should just buy a combination of some and keep them in your car or somewhere available. Never know when you'll need one.

I checked all the ac and fan fuses. Nothing seemed to be wrong (there were diagrams of good and bad fuses) with any of them. I guess we can eliminate that...

The issue with the fan not coming on is concerning, though. That has only happened once to me and I never thought to ask the previous owner. If I bring it to the Subaru place, you know they're going to charge me as much as they can, but idk who I can trust. If I had a better idea of what the issue was, they may be less likely to take me for a fool and just fix the issue...

Still, I appreciate the info on changing fuses. That's something that could really save me in the long run.

Also, the car has a digital MPG readout and it has gone from close to 28 down to freaking 24.0 in the course of a year. Wtf? There's got to be something wrong

My compressor was shot (which wouldn't keep the fan from turning, I mean that would effect the heat too), and Honda wanted 1400 or some shit for a new compressor. I got one for $750 from another place (and could have gotten one a tad cheaper had I shopped around but I needed one quickly), but if you drive 35-45 minutes to work in the South every day, you need that shit.

Subaru's are kinda one of those cars that no one wants to work on, but the AC/Fan isn't gonna be much different than another make of car probably.

True. I do actually prefer to go to other mechanics. Maybe I will get the free examination from Subaru and then shop around. I would say that Subaru are one of the most common type of cars here, though, so mechanics here know them well. My make and year are very common.

There I was, a lad of 22, looking for sex and getting it around every step of the way. Then one day, I took a classy lady out to the movies and the AC went to shit. I says to her man I remember yelling. I yelled at her, "WHY didn't you tell me about this!?". She had no reply. Nothing reasonable anyway.

So there I was getting groceries and I don't like the way they price onions. No sir, not one bit. Once I got back into the heated car, I knew sex was out of the question, her crotch was a bayou battlefield. Soaked panties with sweat, ass, and shit. So I said no until she took a shower that night.

Then it was fine.
