I just got invited to the magic castle and I'm kind of excited for it. Has anyone ever been to a magic show? I dig sleight of hand stuff but I like illusions where things disappear. It's less amazing on camera but in person it makes my mind explode.

Anyone else a fan of magic?

Sleight of hand is just far more impressive, IMO. The larger illusion-based stuff is neat, but it's all science and engineering.

Yeah sleight of hand is absolutely very impressive. That's my favorite sort of up close magic. You can be right in front of the person and be baffled as to how they did it.

Magic! Hah

I think the engineering side of magic is awesome too. Like sure it might be mirrors and distraction but I love the thought that people are devising and building contraptions just to delight and fool people.

It is, but in those instances I'm impressed by the engineering, not the magician. Once the contraption is set up and the stage is prepped, at that point anyone can be the magician. The skill is in the design, not the execution. With sleight of hand the skill is almost entirely in the execution, which makes it all the more impressive.

Yeah fair enough. I still think it's admirable if it's designed and built by the performer. I did this magic video thing with this magician who calls himself krendl and all of his magic was based on boxes and spikes that drop and stuff like that that he just bought and fails to operate with any sort of real gusto. Pretty disappointing but the guy selling these things is making a fortune.
