If my friends were acting like c***s all of a sudden and being shitheads, I would no longer want to associate with them.

I've noticed this is far more the case with people suffering from post-election PTSD who now do nothing but spam anti-Trump garbage on social media. I suppose I agree with you that that would be a justifiable reason to cut off a friend, but I find most people limit that stupidity to the Internet and can just be unfollowed.

Under Obama, race relations devolved to 90's LA riots-levels. And you're trying to defend Obama by saying Trump was decisive?

lol

ImTheMacheteGuy posted...
Well that's the point. The friendship straining is more "they are insufferably obnoxious in their support for trump" than "they simply support trump"

The poll didn't ask if being obnoxious would strain your friendship. They asked if simply supporting Trump would.

I didn't say anything about Obama let alone defend him. Where did you get that idea? From the other person higher up in the block quotes? That has nothing to with me or what I said. What role did Obama play anyway? The race relations problem looks more like the result of the police incidents and subsequent blm movement. I didn't pay enough attention to know whether or not Obama enabled that to some extent, but are you insinuating that he outright caused it?

*divisive

Next part is laughable. "Interpretation does not exist. Poll to be taken literally and read word for word. You aren't allowed to consider anything beyond just who the person voted for. You aren't allowed to think of personal examples. You must treat this as a hypothetical. The hypothetical friend has not changed in any way shape or form. They just simply voted for the candidate they voted for, and that simple fact is the only fact you are allowed to consider. Abuse of this poll will result in a fine of up to $6900 and loss of polling privileges for life and may result in up to 1 year imprisonment." -Mal_Fet, Commissioner, Poll Police.

(Hopefully this looks okay in format. Had to edit stuff out and that's difficult on phone with so many fucking html things)

The administration exempted Keystone from pledges requiring companies to do their level-best to use American steel to build pipelines.

“Well the way that executive order is written … it’s specific to new pipelines or those that are being repaired,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters. “And since this one is already currently under construction, the steel is already literally sitting there, it would be hard to go back.”

I remember in third grade having a conversation with my friends about how unimaginative and idiotic of a response "Nuh huh, you are" is.

The argument presented is that it's not just boring, it's also pointless. It's not even insulting! It's just laughable... It takes a special level of idiocy coupled with lack of self awareness to say it. Even more so in a scenario when you have the time to stop and think about it.

Man, haven't thought about that in years...

Assuming that anyone who voted for Trump is not a decent person puts you on about the same level mentally as a grade schooler, so it's an entirely appropriate response.

If you're not trolling and genuinely can't think of any reasons why someone when vote for Trump aside from:

1) they're not a decent person
2) they're stupid

then you indeed have a child's understanding of the world and aren't capable of discussing topics like this intelligently. It's the symptom of a child's mind to attempt to oversimplify complex issues to make them easier to comprehend.

Sorry, I forget I have to spell things out slowly with this crowd.

Here's a Socratic experiment to illustrate the question.

Let's take Trump out of the equation. Let's say we have a person in a high ranking political position that is clearly and obviously harmful to people.

Would it be fair to say that anyone supporting said person is either too stupid to see the clear and obvious signs or too morally bankrupt to care about the harm he'd do?

If yes, then your argument is lost. Just because you support Trump specifically doesn't prove he is not clearly and obviously harmful.

If not (which I assumed is your answer), then explain (the question I originally asked).

Explain why supporting someone who is clearly and obviously harmful to people isn't stupid or morally bankrupt. Do it without arguing about Trump specifically.

No, Socrates is well understood. What seems to be too complicated for you is actually defending your position directly. You were accused of child-like simplification, and you responded with a child-like strawman president to make your point.

Look at their beloved orange savior today, salivating on Twitter for the AG to imprison his political opponent from the general election over "crimes" that never happened and came out of the tinfoil hat conspiracy machine, like murdering Seth Rich. Is that what America is, a place where we make up conspiracy bullshit about our opponents and use it as an excuse to jail them?

Fuck Trump, I have no respect or friendship for anyone who supports him. He has no love for our country or rule of law and neither do his redhat drones, they are only behind him because he allows them to unleash their primal id at all the innocent people they blame for their lives being shitty, like so many people on CE do.

if you want to say that Trump supporters are supporting someone who is obviously harmful, you should be able to prove that Trump is obviously harmful. Inventing a new guy who automatically has all the same support that Trump has now but is fiat "obviously harmful" is a strawman.

But here is the problem.

You can't prove this to Trump supporters because they cannot see the evidence that he is obviously harmful.

admittedly i didn't read topic so take my comments with a huge grain of salt

the way i look at it, trump supporters are in two larger groups: 1) those that are generally white nationalists who I wouldn't want to be friends with 2) those who make the argument that they voted for Trump because other issues were more important to them than the social issues

I don't have much to say for 1, but for 2 it is really hard to sit with people who hear how much pain various minority groups are in and can seemingly overlook this and just say other things were more important to their vote. It's hard not to see that, for me anyhow, as incredibly dismissive

Like I said, don't understand the Socratic method.

The conversation is about the supporters. The thought experiment is used to illustrate a concept. Once a concept is understood and accepted, then it can be applied to reality.

That's why you start with the theoretical. Then move into the practical.
