it is odd. there hasn't been a serial killer to make major headlines since the beltway snipers. however, i'd put most of that on increased vigilance and technology. it's more likely most of them are domestic disputes, money disputes, or suicides.

There are dozens of serial killers operating at all times. Our news is still very regionalized and there is so much shit we never hear about.

Maybe this contributes to the increasing average weight (at least in America). All the skinny people disappear so there are proportionally more fat people.

Had my uncle go missing on May 20th this year. It was as horrifying as you can imagine.

Hundreds of people searched for him for 3 days straight.

Finally found his body washed up in the bay here. He was on his boat and apparently had a heart attack and fell in.

Needless to say, it's been pretty stressful on my family since then. I've never seen people so happy to find him dead because there's closure in it.

i had an uncle go missing once as well. nobody had seen him for years. eventually he turned up on his own merit. was living out in florida, married and everything.

the scariest thing, and this bothers me even typing it, is how easily a person can go missing if they're a random target

like if a man abducts his son/daughter, ex-wife, girlfriend, a kid that does summer jobs at his place, a neighbor, etc then you have a shot at finding the victim, and when you read about serial killers or w/e they either get caught because they fucked up and a victim escaped, or they made the mistake of abducting someone connected to them and the police figured it out.

but if someone abducts a complete stranger just off the street or something, there/s basically no chance that you'll get found unless the killer really fucks up. scares the poop out of me sometimes when I think about it
