In their real world they run a monopoly, have complete control over what we can see, and squeeze people for every penny they have.

No. No one wants to live there.

They're such a shitty company and it's a shame I'm going to have to get internet from them in the future since Verizon in my area is garbage, literally charges $40 for a .5MB-1MB shitty connection lmao and I can't think of another good company around here.

i don't need to start nation wide, or even state wide.

start with a few hundred / thousand subs and grow from there.

That's not the point he's making. The big providers will harrass you with multiple frivolous lawsuits over and over again until you're forced to shut down because you're drowning in legal fees. That's how these big companies control the market.

Meanwhile the right: laissez faire capitalism is civilisation!

They are incurring the same expenses to expand their network. They are doing nearly everything they can since google is not an ISP primarily.

Falcon 9's might launch enough telecom sats to give internet cheaply globally. Not exactly a start up but there is still innovation, competition, and new companies joining the fray.

I mean Google couldn't even successfully do it. Granted they were having to break ground and out an entirely new infrastructure in place for fiber, but still. Even Google called it quits on trying.

So you first need to study law so you can represent yourself, then you need the resources to start making your network or obtaining access to one from someone else.

ISP's essentially strong-arm counties and cities into enforcing a local monopoly or they won't play ball in their neighborhoods. Trying to break into a market already deep in entrenched contractual monopolies is signing a death certificate for your company.

Granted, there may be room for competition in satellite and cell tower-based services if speed and reliability can be scaled up to meet commercial demand. By bypassing ground-laid cable they could feasibly offer a competitvely priced product that circumvents local monopoly agreements.

Local monopoly strongarming... is that more a naturalized monopoly? Local city resources should be open to businesses right? Always thought that if you bring monopolizing to ISPs the only backbone they have is they provided UTILITY SERVICES to keep competitors out of the city infrastructure. Otherwise, its fair game as long as business pays the city dues. Is that how its supposed work?

The 2nd one, imo

Pretty much because I expect the first one to always happen, but the second could be avoided with like 15 seconds of googling

It's not like they can sink their net worth into it though. And as a public company they had a fiduciary responsibility to not sink too much into failing projects. And unfortunately, it was failing because they couldn't expand quick enough and pick up customers.
