Saying 15% of the league is relevant right now is actually being more generous than the NBA deserves. The Warriors, Cavaliers and Rockets (since getting Chris Paul) are the only 3 teams that have any sort of chance to win this year's NBA title, and the Rockets are still a huge longshot.

That's 3 out of 30 teams relevant, meaning it's actually 90% of the league that doesn't mean shit. The Warriors and Cavs will run through everyone, the Rockets will be the only ones to put up any sort of a fight, and if you're not a fan of one of those teams, then good luck finding a reason to care about the NBA until at least the conference finals. The "arms race" mentality that the stars have is destroying the NBA from the inside.

I literally watched more hockey in the past year than basketball because it was so obvious that the finals would be Warriors vs. Cavs and I cared so little.

If that was the case super teams wouldn't exist. But you have players taking cuts to play together. The fact that max contracts exist is a significant problem.

You realize they negotiate the percent of that money the players get which is why the cap skyrocketed recently. So they helped all NBA players make more going forward. Not really sure what more you want them to do for those players.

They're willing because the difference between 20 million and 30 million isn't that much, especially when they can still get endorsements. If there were no max contracts kd would be a 35-45 mil player and LeBron 50 mil.

Jordan in the 90s was making 30 mil. Stars are grossly underpaid and role players overpaid.

This. The NBA is unbalanced because the players want to come together and win championships. This leads to all the best players being concentrated on a very small number of good teams and the rest of the teams being nothing compared to them. One could argue that a solid 80% of the league are so far from catching the Warriors and Cavs that they should just tank the next few seasons and gather draft picks for when LeBron starts to get old and the Warriors dynasty eventually fades away. There's no reason to even try to win if you're not one of those very elite teams.

I'd rather be running the 76ers right now, who are bad and pretty much guaranteed to get high draft picks, than a team like the Raptors, who are a playoff-caliber team but have absolutely zero chance of making the NBA finals in their current state with the Warriors and Cavs around.

Plus, even though the Yankees won 4 titles in 5 years in the late 90's, at least they played against different teams in the World Series during that time. The last 3 NBA finals have been Warriors vs. Cavs, and nothing that's happened this offseason makes me doubt that it won't happen again this season.

Warriors got into two finals in a row with 4 of their draft picks in the starting lineup.
They'd probably be in the finals again this year even without KD.

You can't blame them for having a good front office.
Cavs got into three finals in a row because they have one of the best players in the history of the game.

Ok I admit it has the least parity but IMO it's still the best sport to watch on tv. It does suck that everyone knows what the finals matchup would be but like others have said, more blame should go to the players for that

NFL - too slow, too many breaks
MLB - too many games, no one cares until September/October
NHL - awesome to watch live but boring on tv, not popular enough yet
MLS - People only care about soccer in America every 4 years

That's not to say I don't watch those sports because I do. It's just that I have the most fun watching NBA games compared to the other leagues

The only teams that matter in the NBA are the teams with the top 5 or so players. Everything in the entire sport revolves around those players, and I just don't understand how so many people can find that interesting.

The players got bent over hard and had their cut of revenue reduced from 51% to 44.74% in the 2011 CBA (no change in 2017); the skyrocketing cap is entirely because of the TV deal.

But the idea that it's only elite players controlling the Players Assocation and only focusing on themselves is off base. James Jones, Andre Iguodala, Anthony Tolliver, Garret Temple, and Pau Gasol are 5 of the 9 players on the Executive Committee, and if you look down the list of team representatives, it's largely role players.

I will say the next season is interesting. The East is already done as far as I am concerned but the West is loaded. In order to get to Cleveland in the Finals, Warriors may have to beat...

Round 1: Thunder Led by Russ and PG13
Round 2: Rockets Led by Harden and CP3 (Melo too maybe?)
Round 3: Spurs led by Pop

Having to go through those caliber of teams before even reaching the finals is crazy. Not to Mention my wolves are in there now and they are looking like an incredible team too. It may be optimistic, but the Wild West is currently a 5 team conference (GSW, OKC, HOU, SA, MIN) while the East is only a 2 team conference (Cavs and Celts)

It is possible to be GSW and CLE again, but this season appears to be less of a sure thing because of the arms race other teams have done this offseason. Melo, Derrick Rose, and LaMarcus Aldridge are all still seeking new teams possibly so we still have more moves coming.

None of those are even close to beating the Warriors in a 7-game series barring an injury to Curry or Durant. They're close enough that it's not absolutely hopeless, but those teams would need to acquire one more star player to approach Golden State's level. And before you ask: no, I don't consider a dsgruntled, past-his-prime Carmelo Anthony enough of a superstar to swing things in any of these teams' favor.

Thats what I mean. Warriors wont sweep through the west like last year. Alot of stars went west and joined a select few teams so it will be competitive at the very least.

lol. only 10 teams make the playoffs, 4 of which play a one game play-in as the wildcard round. MLB regular season matters more than any other sport. People care around late june to start getting into the all star vote, then after the break for playoff races.
