The idea that in the 90s with 56k modems you could create this large world with tons of people playing simultaneously was fascinating to middle school Toast. My friend and I were able to get nearly our entire computer class to play, including the preppy girls. When I first started it was when the server count was still in the single digits. I remember the rage I felt when they started adding anti bot mechanics like limiting how much you could mine in a row. Then later also adding fatigue. And all the scams built around "item duping" and the spam asking how to rainbow text.
