Police said 29-year-old Carter’s vehicle was stopped on a highway in Cornelia, about 130 kilometres northeast of Atlanta, hours before he was scheduled to perform in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday. A tweet from Carter’s account before the show said he wouldn’t make it because of “transportation issues.” Carter, the troubled younger brother of Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, was accused of drink driving and possession of less than 28 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia. His photographer girlfriend, Madison Parker, was charged with possession of marijuana and obstruction of law-enforcement officers. Last month, Carter was hospitalised for exhaustion after a performance in Syracuse. Following news of his brother’s arrest, 37-year-old Nick Carter reached out to his younger sibling on Twitter. “To my brother: I love u no matter what & if u feel the need to reach for help, I am here and willing to help you get better,” he tweeted. “Family isn’t always easy,be (sic) we’re all here for you.” Days before the drug bust, Carter was caught on video in his hometown of Tampa, Florida, criticising Shia LaBeouf’s most recent drunken run-in with the law. In the video, obtained by TMZ, Carter insisted, “You won’t catch me getting any DUIs ... I don’t even drink.” In November 2015, the I Want Candy singer came under fire after naming himself Michael Jackson’s successor. “Remember one very important thing,” read a deleted tweet by the pop star. “Michael passed down the torch to me. I never had to ask for him to do that.” His statement sparked instant backlash, forcing the singer to tweet: “And why can’t I have idols and mentors Michael invited me personally to sing with him and Luther Vandross and Beyoncé like stfu people jeez.” Wow.
