Some don't own or know about the EE even now, and other people think the EE is just "too long".

Imagine watching a short movie instead if reading the book with the actual details like how many trees they walked by and what they looked like

people who have to use the words "character development" half the time don't even understand what was going on but want to sound like they're in the know and throw it around.

I don't even understand why they manufacture copies on bluray and dvd of the non-extended versions. It basically wouldn't cost them any more to make.

It's their loss if they don't want to watch the EE, no one is forcing them to watch the better versions.

The theatrical cuts have better pacing and make for a tighter viewing experience. Even Jackson himself thinks so--he made the cuts himself and those were the reasons he gave. I mean for me, while the theatrical cuts are long the never feel long, at all. The extended editions kind of do. Even though I like them, for the most part, if I go back and watch I prefer the theatrical cut.

The extended cuts give nice background info and add extra dimensions that add to the movie. But I think the movies are better, as movies, in the theatrical version. And of course the novels to make the characters more fleshed out and give intereresting details. All of the scenes they chose to cut, I pretty much agree with, or at least see the reasoning behind them. I mean the Saruman scene at the beginning of the third movie is fantastic but it means we're waiting a LONG time for the main part of the story to kick in.

I think you can summarize Boromir just fine based on the theatrical cut. He is a brave warrior, experienced fighting the forces of Mordor for his people and he clearly has a deep love for them. But he also is arrogant and condescending to other people. The One Ring clearly uses both this arrogance and his love of his people to corrupt him and make him downright monstrous, but the final scene with Aragorn shows us that we are not seeing him the way he usually is and that he is, at heart, a good man in normal situations. The extended edition adds a few extra layers but we understand his core character just fine without them.

Personally I would recommend the theatrical cut to a first time viewer, and the extended edition if you want to see it again. I think this would give most people a better experience overall.
