Nope. But generally you'd go in person and treat it like you were applying for an actual job.
Seriously.
Treat it like a job application. You won't need a resume or anything but dress nice, present yourselef well and please, please have something other than "I like animals" as the reason you want to volunteer.

Okay cool. When i lived out in California i worked on my uncle's animal sanctuary and would def love to do something similar. Even if its just walking dogs.

I was thinking about doing it last month, but I saw that you had to commit to doing it for an entire 6 months and that seemed way too long to me

That's good. You can use that. Basically, one of the biggest problems with volunteering for anything, but mainly hospitals or animal shelters is people get burned out way, way too quick.
The fact you have experience with animals would hold well for you so I suggest doing some research on the place you're looking to volunteer at, dress up nice (no need for a full on suit but like... jeans and a polo or something) and then just make sure you explain well what you did at the animal sanctuary.

The fact you already have experience at one is a massive boon.

Ya i moved out to Cali when i was19 and stayed for 3 years. While there i worked on my uncles property. He would rescue animals, take in farm animals that no longer serve their purpose. Everything from dogs and wolves to sheep and rams.

But thanks for the tips and insight.

Ah you'll be fine, then.
Just remember you're quite literally asking people who have no clue about you, to let you work with animals who have possibly been abused.
If I were you, I'd even call up your uncle or someone at the shelter who'd be able to get used as a reference. Other than that, you should be absolutely fine.

I volunteer at a wildlife rescue. I sent an application through their website earlier this year when they were accepting them.

I don't understand why places take volunteering as serious business. I remember I tried to volunteer at soup kitchen/homeless shelter to make turkey deliveries for thanksgiving. Not for school credits or for a resume, just out of the kindness of my heart. I had to go through multiple interviews, references, speak with various people, background checks, etc. It was silly. I'll never do it again for that exact reason. Call me am you-know-what hole but maybe more people would if you just let them volunteer without the drama. I'm not applying to be CEO of a business. I'm taking time out of my personal day to work for free.

Vulnerable people/animals.
Do you want just any Tom, Dick or Harry looking after animals that got literally punted in the face? Do you want just anyone looking after people who cannot even fent for themselves properly?

Volunteering in the back of an animal shelter as admin worker? No big deal. Working with the animals, it's a big deal

Ask a few questions and get on with it. ZERO reason I should be filling out multiple applications with personal info, multiple interviews and reference just so I can help people for free in my personal time. Zero reason. Not saying they should just let aby random Joe off the street walk into the kitchen and start serving food no questions asked, but come on. That turned my off to volunteering entirely. I admit it shouldn't have, but it did.

But you aren't helping people out. You are helpling vulnerable people out.

I completely get your point but there are laws and regulations in place to stop the bad people from getting positions where they can abse others.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Like I said, I agree you should ask questions, but not to the extent that they do. I'm not asking to provide one on one consul to rape victims that are sexually permiscous, I'm asking to volunteer at a damn homeless shelter and deliver food on a holiday

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say you deserved or had to be placed through it.

My point is that laws and regulations are what needs it because you're working with vulnerable people. I trust you. But the other guys don't.

So yes, we will have to agree to disagree but please don't think I was saying it's a necessity for everyone to go through so many loopholes - I was explaining why they're there in general.

To put this into perspective: I'm not meant to be be around kids at my job (I haven't had a background check and it costs money) but as part of it, I have to be in rooms with kids at times. Everyone knows I'm fine and doesn't care to stop me. But the law is an ass at times.

I take no offense. It's cool
