1) We all dying because of climate change, as exploiters sacrifice the earth for personal profit and short-term gain.

2) We unable to escape to outer space because, again, space colonization is financially risky, requiring titanic investements that won't see any returns for several generations. We can't expect the jailers to open the doors of the jail and let us escape the dystopia of their own design.

No, everyone won't die. Most people will not die. People will adapt. Even without high tech responses, humans were able to survive the last ice age. I'm not sure why the opposite would be worse.

The overall quality of life for citizens in Western capitalist countries is better than that of countries which are not. And those resources that you mentioned, which are bountiful? They are the result of capitalism, not communism, which we've seen fall prey to mass famines that have killed millions.

I do believe that eventually we will have to abandon capitalism but not for the reasons the TC states. I don't know how long it will take--maybe 100 years, maybe 500 years--but eventually we will have to go to some kind of socialist society, for two reasons:

1. Automation will gradually make more and more human labor obsolete. This means that fewer and fewer people will be able to have jobs that have any monetary value to society and incentive for companies to hire people will go way down. Eventually just having people's basic needs taken care of whether they work or not will be a necessity.

2. Capitalism is based on growth. Changing from agrarian economy to a more industrial one created huge growth in western nations, and it has caused huge growth in other countries when they went through the same transformation. However this is finite, and while technology creates new opportunities for growth (for example information and cell phone technology) these are much smaller and very sporadic. Long term they cannot create enough stable growth to keep world capitalist economies healthy unless we find some sort of huge leap like space travel, which is hardly something we can rely on. Growth will never stop but we will see more and more diminishing returns meaning that a different economic model is necessary.

I would agree with you that Capitalism, as we know it, has some hard times ahead as we near the point where AI takes over all of our jobs. But Capitalism isn't the only system at stake... all of humanist economics and all Humanism in general is going to come to an end. We're going to have to merge with our technology in order to avoid being phased out... and once that happens, Dataism will rule the day. Dataist economic systems will compete and I suspect that a new economic system very similar to Capitalism will prevail.

To put it another way: once we change what it means to be "human," we'll also have to change what it means to be "Capitalist." But the transition could be pretty rough.

Communism doesn't work. Capitalism works for a limited amount of people. Socialism can work for as few people as just the government or as many as most people.

The key is balance. Mix the economy up. Many European countries have the balance down. America has basically the exact wrong balance and is imploding.

Communism requires an absolute leader who the people revere to do the right thing.

Tito for Yugoslavia was really the only successful communist leader. After he died it took just 12 years for Yugoslavia to implode.

Are there any leaders in this world with the charisma and leadership of Tito?
