white noise drowns out actual noise

Makes sense, I'm a fan of white noise while sleeping, too. Have to have the hum of the ceiling fan on to really sleep comfortably, for instance.

It's just hard to sleep in dead silence for certain people. For me it's for my tinnitus, so I have to have my fan on all night.
