Is the amount more then 100 dollars. It's a felony to keep found cash amounts totalling 100 dollars or more in most states.

I would take all reasonable efforts to return it to the rightful owner. If that is not possible then I would turn it in to the local authorities.

Had this happen last year. Checked inside to see the persons info and it belonged to someone in the house right there so I gave it back to them.
