What IRS says they did wrong:
- Made repeated cash deposits of just under 10k intentionally to avoid federal reporting regulations - 3 years of missed taxes. Couple in question claims this is not true and that they have always paid their taxes. They additionally specified that for the years in question, they had tax write offs that were fine and dandy.
