I went in today to get Andromeda for $20 and the guy at the counter was explaining Rainbow Six: Siege to a kid that I assume is like 7 while also dropping every possible hint to his mom that she's not going to like him playing it and will probably call to bitch to them about it later but she still buys it for him.
I couldn't do that day in and day out Not to mention they're a shit company to work for --- The user formally known as freakofnature30 I like ****posting. ... Copied to Clipboard!

"Ma'am this game is not suitable for your 7 year old"
mom on cell phone: omg did i ask you i have to get to work can you just ring me up!?! *the next day* wtf! this game had guns and killing in it! WHY DID YOU LET ME BUY THIS FOR MY SON!? ..those people are the fuckin worst.... But yea i also hear their weekly hours are determined by subscriptions, cards, trade ins and pre-orders.....its no wonder they're so pushy about it and I don't blame them..having worked in a retail position that is constantly on your ass about stuff like that, i get it....and to know that how much money you make a week is determined by that? I'd be pushy too... ... Copied to Clipboard!

I feel like my parents were one of the few parents that followed the ESRB.
My cousin was 3 years older than me, and my Mom would ask him if a game was suitable for me to play. Most of the time he'd throw me a bone, but one of the few games he said no to was Grand Theft Auto III: Vice City. I didn't get to play them as a kid, and I have no desire to now that I can.. They followed MPAA ones as well, but we're a bit more lenient on that. --- http://i.imgur.com/FlUFXoG.png - by Eulu PSN:nayr909 ... Copied to Clipboard!

My parents followed the ESRB too. My dad would let me play Thief and Drakan with him, and my cousin would sneak Bad Fur Day, but I didn't actually own an M-rated game myself until I was like 14

I actually had a blast doing it when I was in college. Then again, I didn't force subs or reservations on anyone. Asked once and that was that. Everyone I worked with was cool too. Granted, this was nearly a decade ago before GS got really on people's asses about this stuff.

I dunno, dealing with crappy customers must suck but opening new games, smearing chocolate on them, resealing and selling as new sounds like fun tbh.

Surprisingly, my parents actually really went into researching games I could play when I was young. To the point where they started playing them lol.
I wasn't allowed to play tons of M games, but I do specifically remember being allowed to play Halo 1. Went through it with my dad. Was a blast. --- PSN/Steam: HaVeNII7 ... Copied to Clipboard!

99% of the time, the employee just flips over the back and reads off the ESRB rating.

When did the ESRB become a thing really? Because my parents were pretty strict but I don't recall them ever paying attention to game ratings, but I'm wondering if they just weren't a thing until I was 16 and had a job and just bought whatever I wanted and didn't tell them if I thought they'd not like it. >_>
