Yep.

That'll be the next negative narrative the mainstream media will cling to. How we cannot 'trust' Trump when it comes to dealing with North Korea. He'll start WW3!!!!!!!!!!!"

"but but but ....he's a MAN CHILD!! He'll launch nukes due to his irritable nature!!!!"

And the liberals will buy into this, of course. Hook, Line, and Sinker.

Yeah, I remember when there was outrage in violent video games, and derogatory lyrics in rap songs, but now the outrage has dwindled all the way down to the shape of shampoo bottles, and calling a woman pregnant.

As I understand it, Trump was told by multiple general and other advisors that sending SEALs into Yemen for that attack was not even close to worth the risk and would have little to no benefit. Yet, he did it anyway.

Eh. His SecDef, Mattis, told him it was a good idea and he should do it.

There is no reason to give Trump the benefit of the doubt. He's just a typical reality TV star. A bunch of lies. He still thinks he's on the apprentice. He's even does stage dressing. He's putting a bunch of his supporters on a bus to make up the crowd for when he speaks in Poland even.

Basically, he think he's playing the president on a TV show and he gets pissed whenever things go off script. That's why everything that doesn't agree with his script gets called fake news. It isn't in the script after all.

Guessing he wouldn't shy away from a NK conflict.

"For his first official trip abroad, Mattis began a two-day visit with long-time U.S. ally South Korea on February 2, 2017. He warned North Korea that "any attack on the United States, or our allies, will be defeated", and any use of nuclear weapons would be met with an "effective and overwhelming" response from the United States. During a press conference in London on March 31, 2017, with his UK counterpart Secretary of State for Defence Michael Fallon, Mattis said North Korea was going "in a very reckless manner" and needed to be stopped."

I'm confused

Are you now saying that General Mattis cannot be trusted to handle NK? Because it seems as if Trump has gotten all his military decisions from him

2. The only entity that has been caught in lying is the mainstream media.

Most politicians lie strategically, but tell the truth when they can most of the time because getting caught consistently makes them look ridiculous and gets them dragged on evening talk shows. Trump lies about things which are demonstrably untrue. Things about which there is photo evidence, or things which had already been reported on by our own intelligence organizations, things which he clearly knew nothing about. Taking twitter into account, there is little he will not lie about. He lies about things which are impossible. He's still holding rallies trying to sell you a wall no one can pay for, now with added solar panels.

In a week the WH tried to float three different stories about the Comey firing before the interview Trump gave to CNN refuting all of them. The Michael Flynn drama has also been 'revised' at least three times as WH and intelligence staff keep having to 'correct' the record on when they briefed the WH about some of his staff picks.

Beyond increasing ICE activity, what campaign promises is he delivering on? An improved ACA? Reviving the coal industry? Striking a deal with Carrier to keep those jobs from moving overseas?

You don't need media coverage to follow a lot of these stories, just a camera and a twitter account.

mattis is a smart guy, and i think he realizes that nuclear weapons are not the primary threat NK poses. the ten thousand artillery pieces aimed at seoul are the primary threat, and we can do fuck all about that.

that's not really accurate. aside from a WaPo article noting that it was a bit dependent on war propaganda and some sources discussing its relative cost and effectiveness, the bulk of TV media outlets were salivating over how cool the explosions looked

Agreed. It would obliterate SK rather quickly. We do support SK with our military, right?

we have like 20,000 troops deployed there yes. also we have THAAD deployed there for stopping existing NK SRBMs.

No. I said he wouldn't likely shy away from a NK conflict.

What's the problem with that, if NK keeps threatening to bomb us

Shouldn't we try to prevent another attack on our soil if we could? What if NK does attack us before we took any action? Would it make you feel better that we took the "high road" and allowed Americans to die before doing anything about it?

aside from the fact that the supposed ICBM is probably not an ICBM, and that it has to spend an hour deploying in an easily-detected way in an open area where it could be destroyed in a surgical strike, and that it has no countermeasures or proven accuracy, and that GMD could probably shoot it down...

...a US first strike would be a death sentence to the population of south korea, our ally, as well as the 20,000 soldiers deployed there.

The fact that the threat isn't credible yet isn't any reason to rule out the possible necessity of a first strike.

Obviously the current situation does not warrant a first strike, otherwise Mattis would have done it already.

it is a reason against. it is not a solo reason against.

the solo reason against is "millions of people who are our friends will die, along with thousands of americans"

it sucks. but this has been a problem that tied our hands since the end of the korean war.

I'm not really sure why you are jumping to an emotional appeal or trying to make assumptions about my remark.

That said, an NK attack would likely be on SK, wouldn't it? As DM mentioned, we have 20k soldiers there and it seems like NK has bigger 'beef' with SK than any other country. The US striking first would be quite a mess.

NK wants to unify with SK, so initializing an all-out war with them is not in their best interest. And if their propaganda is to be believed at all, the US is their enemy #1. That's why they want to develop a missile that can reach us.

Point is, there's nothing wrong with the statement that we will retaliate against NK if they seek to attack us.

Self defense certainly a better reason to go to war than to prevent Russia from controlling some ME country.

I also have no issues with self-defense in most contexts.

Your first post seemed to take issue with Mattis' decision to send SEALs into Yemen, and you used that as evidence that Mattis and Trump can't be trusted to handle NK.

But you do support military action for the purpose of self defense. Isn't that exactly what their stance on NK is though? That we would attack if they presented a credible threat?
