I found the cave and the chick who hadn't paid her guild dues. She said she left the mage guild permanently to study and suggested that I pay the dues myself if the guild wants them so badly.

Not saying you should go back and redo this, but if the mage likes you enough, she's willing to pay the dues.

Just something for a future playthrough.

I assumed as much before setting out on the quest. At first I considered getting a personality potion but got sidetracked and forgot. But since I'm now having to deal with getting all this stuff back to town and making a second trip anyway, I'll probably take that route.

Alrighty then :)

If you pick up the illusion spell Charm, you can eventually create an enchantment that casts Charm 100 for 1 second on Touch. The nice thing about these things is that when you talk to someone, time freezes, so that 1 second is exactly as long as you need it to be.

You could also train Illusion until you can cast the spell reliably, if you want.

This will make quests like this a lot easier.

Also make sure to make Frenzy 100 for 2 seconds as well. Frenzy 100 for 2 seconds will allow you to turn anyone aggressive, which also means you're allowed to kill them without getting a fine. This is useful for certain quests.

I prefer to use the Taunt method despite Frenzy being way easier.

Also being naked + taunt is just hilarious.

And damn, rereading about Morrowind is making me want to play it...

You might want to devote a session or two to experimenting with alchemy.

If nothing else, getting your alchemy skill up will help you eat ingredients later (the strength and success rate of eating ingredients is determined by your Alchemy skill)

Which a bit humorous to me because it means that alchemists are just better at digesting than anyone else.

The other reason for this is that it's part of the game, and one that you can access without too much trouble.

That being said, if you haven't installed the Morrowind Code Patch, you probably should - there's an annoying bug where the game thinks you haven't entered a name for your potion (even though one is automatically generated based off of the effect) and the workaround is more or less finagling with things until it'll let you create potions again. MCP just outright fixes this awful, awful glitch.

I do want to figure out alchemy. I tried making a potion when I first got my alchemy set and the potion failed. :(

Yeah, potions are going to fail, just like eating ingredients can fail.

That's why you grab like... two 50 stacks of items that make a potion and spam-click the create potion button, lol.

Over time, the amount of potions you'll be able to create will increase as your alchemy skill and intelligence go up.

Oh, and a bit of trivia for ya - the act of using consuming ingredients directly for their effects is called wortcraft in-universe. So it is a legitimate application of the alchemy skill.

The reason it still amuses me is that this also applies to *eating bread*.

Also, another tip... if you combine two cheap ingredients, you can sell the potion for more than it cost to buy the ingredients.

Gonna hide some grinding/money-making instructions behind spoiler text in case you want to discover methods yourself:
The Alchemist shop in Balmora sells restockable (that is, when you close the menu, it'll instantly restock on those items) Alit Hide and Bloat, which can combine together to make Detect Animal potions. Both of these ingredients are very cheap, so you can make a tidy profit off of this, especially since Nalcarya has a lot of gold to work with.

Also, if you sell restockable items to a merchant that stocks them, they'll restock up to the new amount. So if they carry 10, and you sell 5 to them, they'll restock up to 15. Useful for speeding up the process of buying more ingredients to make potions with.

She also sells Trama Root, which, when combined with Racer Plumes, makes Levitation Potions. Useful for getting around Morrowind.

There's an even better way to abuse Alchemy. In the Sadrith Mora Imperial Cult shrine, there's a dude who sells restocking amounts of Ash Yams and Bloats. Combine them together and you get potions of Fortify Intelligence. Intelligence is the attribute Alchemy is based on, meaning that as your Intelligence increases your ability to make better potions also increases.

So you make a batch of potions, drink them, make another batch of potions, drink them, and repeat until your Intelligence is as high as you want it (and because of the way Alchemy-made potions work, after a while of potion making and quaffing the potions you make will last for hours at a time and boost your Intelligence by thousands of points). You can stop drinking at a certain point and make dozens of potions worth thousands of gold each, which basically solves any and all money problems you ever had and ever will have.

And the best part of all this is that you can be doing this less than 30 minutes after starting a new character.

"Abuse" is a very succinct term for that exploit you just mentioned.

I would not recommend doing this. This will quickly push things to absurd levels, and the game will lose the rest of its charm.

All I was doing was giving advice on naturally improving your alchemy skill and getting some good money out of it at the same time :/

Also exploits like that are what I hate about Morrowind. You might as well just enable god mode and use the console to give yourself more money than you can ever spend if you're going to be doing that.

Getting a house in Morrowind is so annoying

In fact, I think the only way to get one legally is to join a Great House. Or is there another way?

I ended up just using that one house in Balmora with The dead body, and stuffed all my stuff in the body

OK well I didn't necessarily accomplish much but I did get myself back into a mobile state.

Almsivi Interventioned to Balmora, drank my one potion I had left that fortified strength for 60 seconds. That allowed me to run to Caius Cosades house, where I dropped my alchemy gear on the floor and rested. After that I ate my two remaining stoneflower petals. First one did nothing, and the second one restored the remainder of my damaged strength. Cha ching.

Man it's pretty cool how you just get a stat permanently damaged like that. And it was insanely satisfying that I basically had exactly the number of potions and ingredients on me which were needed to counteract it. In Oblivion and Skyrim I felt like there were a million utterly useless spell/potion effects. Like Restore Strength would never actually be worth sinking time/resources into. But it was essential here.

I also realized my Endurance was damaged. It was at 3. Which I have to fix asap because that'll gimp my health if I level up like that, right?

So I wandered around Balmora checking for restore endurance potions/ingredients. Found one at the alchemist and one at the mages guild. Didn't seem to have any spells there which would help. Not that I could afford them anyway. I was flat broke after the restore endurance potions.

Guess when I pick back up I'll check out other mages guilds for a spell or more ingredients.

There are shrines at the temples and at the imperial cult. For imperial cult, it's the stone altar that usually has some money on top of it. For Temple, they're obelisks with artwork on them. There are a whole bunch of different obelisk-type shrines you can find in different places which give different effects. The one with Restore Attribute is called Shrine of the Tribunal and will be at every Temple.
