She's really hoping for me to return her feelings and I feel bad that I can't.

We were talking about her future at the bonfire tonight for the 4th of July, and she told us that her parents pretty much gave up on her. Like when she was younger, they wanted her to go to college but now, they are pretty much like saying not to waste her time and just go to a vocational school.

I chimed in and was like "Well, it sounds like they just expect you probably to marry a rich person or something.

She responded saying "Well, you are looking to go into politics, right? I know my parents hate politics. I wonder how they would feel if I was to marry a female politician."

....And just like that, I kind of stopped and jokingly laughed it off with a "Oh, I know, right?" response.

It gets so awkward. She's staying with another friend of mine who has always liked her and originally wanted to be with her. I dunno how he stands now but for years, she has given hints such as resting her head on my shoulder, outright told me she is lonely, and even told me she had a crush on me.

I love her as a friend, but yeah. :(
