A corporate media giant basically threatened and shamed a private citizen over a fucking gif. This should be the death nail for CNN. Instead we get people acting like he fucking deserved it. This is a fucking joke. Political ideological bias bullshit is going to be the death of this country.

CNN is just emulating the leader of its native country.

Ever wonder what a flame war between people in power who actually have power? Well this is it, too bad there are no mods to ban and delete stuff, or maybe it's a good thing there are no mods, see how ridiculous it could go.

The scummy tricks and scammy ways this President operated his business life is worth taking into consideration when looking at how he's operating as President. That includes researching any and all actions done, any and all references made, any and all connections, big and small. (As a hypothetical: What if it's a White House or Representative's intern that is being retweeted by the President? That'd be where the bad posting history and identity could come into play. But instead it turns out to just be some random AltRight Redditor.).

We have to accept that this is now a bizarro world where we have a reality tv celebrity as President and has connections to the owner of fake news tabloids, is a fan of Info Wars and actually believes some of the crap they put out, and has surrogates in a fascist broadcast company taking over local news channels throughout the country and forcing them to push conservative & fake narratives. This shady President, his shady inner circle, their shady inner circles, and any and all connections brief or long term, big and small, are worth at least being researched.

So because you don't like news outlets such as infowars, it's okay to go after the president's supporters and make public examples out of this?

How on earth do people think acting this way will make Americans want to vote for you?

Apparently the journalist who exposed the person who made the gif is being threatened with violence and threats as well.

Either way, doesn't seem like a good look for CNN, especially on the 4th of July. Is Trump actually going to win this war with CNN?

The reporter is saying the line has been misinterpreted.

This line is being misinterpreted. It was intended only to mean we made no agreement w/the man about his identity.

FYI "HanAssholeSolo" just called me."I am in total agreement with your statement. I was not threatened in anyway."

HanAssholeSolo" posted his apology before we *ever* spoke him. He called us afterwards to apologize further

CNN specifically choose not to reveal this guy's identity and to say we threatened anyone is a total lie.

I mean I do believe him. I think this is a case of writing the article poorly. But the damage has been done, the story has blown out of control and the internet is outraged.

Some people are acting like CNN literally bullied and doxed the guy.

I don't give a shit about CNN. I just know when the internet gets overblown about something and fills in the blanks themselves.

It was a poorly written article and CNN is paying for it. It doesn't even make sense.
"Oh lets blackmail this guy in an article and then lie that we did on Twitter. It's a perfect plan!"

How on Earth does that make any sense?

Hell even in the original article it says;
After posting his apology, "HanA**holeSolo" called CNN's KFile and confirmed his identity. In the interview, "HanA**holeSolo" sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.

Man what mastermind evil blackmailers they have in CNN.

First of all literally InfoWars. Second, you're not some random supporter if the President is showing off your work to the world in order to make political statements.

Apparently people are doing that right now to CNN and gotten ALOT of stuff on them...

CNN has declared war on the Internet and they don't even realize...you can't win against the Internet...
Not to mention that on top of that, plenty of people including Julian Assange, Trump Jr. and even the Washington Times(I think) has taken them to task for that.

Yeah even if CNN still stands at the end of this, their rep will take a MASSIVE hit like nothing else afte rthis.

His username is public information. He went out and claimed ownership of that meme, and people unnassociated with CNN investigated his username to find out he was a racist piece of shit. This aligns with that whole "be careful with what you post online" shit. I guess being a bigot is all fun and games when you can do it anonymously.

I ranted about this at length to a friend of mine. It's still upsets me that CNN did this. The guy may have been a racist shitbag, who was only shit posting online as a form of trolling, but CNN went well beyond acceptable standards and practices for this.

When newspapers and legitimate organizations are cutting back investigative journalism because it cost too much money, and then we have people like this asshole going after private citizens because they don't like a gif he made. The fact that the article writer has the further validate his stance online instead of letting the article speak for itself shows you just how problematic this is.

I don't think it's especially unusual for a journalist to look for and reach out to names behind usernames to get a statement, but I've never seen a reporter just release it or threaten to release the identity, intentional or not, especially in the case of a minor. The most I'd ever be okay with is something like "We reached out to the owner of the account for a statement. They shall remain anonymous" and that's it. Definitely not what they wrote.

This isn't even considering the fact that the initial gif was about CNN so an article from the same news network is going to be more closely scrutinized regarding their objectivity. It really does come off like they were upset and overreacted very poorly to the whole thing.

Actually I don't even think I'd be okay with that statement given what sparked it in the first place. It's just something that escalated well beyond it had any right to do.

I don't either. and they could have easily omitted all the info they posted. they could have released a small statement saying they spoke to the creator, they had a chat and it was all in jest and it's over.

they could have also disregarded a total non story and focused on actual news.

this is why mainstream media can hardly be called journalism any more.
