I used to think the stories and characters in JRPGs were badass and deep...but then voice acting became mainstream, and I realized that the directors of these games must have had a very different vision of how their characters talk in games. They wanted to go with more of an 'animated Disney movie' style of voice acting (with less talent), which made JRPGs unenjoyable for me.

JRPGs should play out like a (comic) book. Let the story and dialogue be fundamental to the viewer. If I want to watch a movie, I'll watch a movie.
