My cat used to do many things cats are known to do... start sprinting randomly, jump around, knock things over, etc.

But as soon as we let her go outside, all that stopped. Cats are outdoor animals and are meant to be outdoors. It is in their nature.

Now that she's been outside, it would be impossible to keep her in. She would stand by the door all day meowing and as soon as someone went out or in, she would rush out

Not that I would want to keep her in anyway. She clearly is happy being able to go outside

I live in a rather good area for my cats to go outside and they all have different reactions to it. Some of them thrive and love it while others prefer to spend the majority of the time inside.

I let my cats outside almost all the time, just not much in the Winter and I had an after 8 pm no outside rule for when it was too cold.

Saw one of those at a local shelter and they are so cool, like if I was a cat I would chill in one of those all day.

Cats are disgusting creatures so I agree with you.

Release them all in the wild and let them fend for themselves. If they can't handle a truck to the face then it's simply natural selection at play.

Don't let your cat outside.

1. You can't contain them unless you have an enclosure for them
2. They will hunt birds
3. Many mostly-indoor cats do not have the skills to be outside (stay away from traffic, defend themselves, etc.)

If your cat chilled out after you let her outside, it means you aren't exercising her. Play with her, get her things to do inside, etc.

This. Some of them also fight other cats and animals such as stray dogs.

This would be my biggest concern. If you were to allow a dog to do this people would have a huge problem, but for some reason it's ok to allow a cat to roam the neighborhood. The neighborhood cats are always coming into my yard and making tons of noise pissing my dog off.

So cats are actually killing so much birds that some populations are running dangerously low.

Not very natural when we're artificially adding a bunch of extra cats to the ecosystem.

They are but you're going to trigger a lot of people. People want pets and don't have properties with large open spaces or live in the city.

I think it's cruel to keep a cat inside an apartment all its life but it's none of my business.

Yeah it wouldn't be problematic at all if a couple of bird and mouse species went extinct, would it? It's not like they're parts of some big ecosystem or anything.

I can understand being annoyed by cats pissing off your dog but there's a pretty big difference what a dog and cat might do to strangers. Cats generally won't maul children out of some odd territorial beavior. You think packs of dogs wouldn't get into garbage and stuff? Packs of dogs would be far more annoying than cats.

It's because cats don't attack random people and cause problems for civilians...they just hunt other animals, become road kill or otherwise get themselves injured, or do whatever then return home

Yeah. House cats will kill more for sport than necessity, so this leads to them killing more birds than a feral cat.

That's what I figured (though I still don't know if it's true). So I don't have to feel bad about letting my cats outside in a suburban area :)

Just make sure it has a top. I had a neighbor whose cat almost got swiped by a raptor.
