Friends ask me to go to bars with them

I arrive, reluctantly.
My two close friends are surrounded by an entire table of people whom they already know, but i dont

There is nowhere to sit at the table, so i grab the only chair inthe room.

Pull up the chair to the table.
my chair is good 2 feet below everyone else. so i am literally looking up at everyone and am isolated

my bud who invited me is busy talking to one of the girls, not even acknowledging my presence other than a wave

the other bud is on the other side of the table, too far to talk too

as i sit there the anxiety creeps in. no one is even attempting to talk to me


i order a hot dog to try and look i am have something to do

eventually, 3/4 into the hot dog. say fuck it and just leave without saying a word

Why didn't you say anything to one of your friends friends

Tho it is lame of them to invite you and then not even attempt to include you (assuming they know youre not socially adept)

Idk just sounds like a lame situation all around

i made up some bull shit excuse and said i vomited from the hot dog

i think it's fairly obvious im lying, or maybe its not. pretty cringey, huh...

i honestly dont have the ability to deal with confrontation, so instead of saying fuck you or something or explaining what happened i just made shit up

I've had similar situations and usually trying to talk to strangers in a group setting like this just makes things more awkward and after a few words they just go back to talking to their friends.

Just text him back and say you don't want to sound like a dick but you got there and knew no one, and they didnt appear to even try help you out so you just got off. No big deal.

I mean, if you just arrive in the middle of the conversation and make no attempt to join or even introduce yourself to anyone, of course people aren't going to talk to you.

There are ways to actually engage in that situation, but you're letting your anxiety control you. Avoidance just perpetuates your anxiety.

I mean, what likely happened was that you were just one of the invited people, so it's not like they were waiting to talk to you specifically. They were just getting a bunch of people to go in a group. And in that situation, you either have to involve yourself in the group or, as you did in this case, just excuse yourself.

And there's nothing wrong with excusing yourself, btw.
