....shit, do you think you're entitled to have it under the sign with the lower price? I'm in retail and i see this frequently. Where do you stand on this scenario?

If it has the proper price on the sticker, that's the price. If the store fucked up and put the wrong price on the specific item, that's their bad.

I mean, people go into stores, pick up shit and decide they're not gonna buy it later, then leave the item wherever they feel like. The stores shouldn't be liable for stuff like that.

It's 2017. We've technology to mitigate these disputes.

The price is whatever is on the barcode. That's why retail shops put the price in two different locations with a barcode to identify the item SKU and carry price information to the cashier on checkout in case some unscrupulous types try swapping labels.

Does the price label that's on the sign state what the product is at that price?

Follow up question, is the item that was in the wrong place, contextually with other "like" products around it? As in, it's not like a PS4 game sitting in the soap aisle?

yeah the label always states what the item is and what price it is, it always gives a desription of the item. Doesn't mean some people won't bitch about it

I managed a store for a few years right out of high school. I can tell you that if the store stocked a number of items in the wrong place then you're pretty much expected to give it to the customer at that price - and there can be hell to pay if you don't, including fines from the state. However, if one item just ended up in the wrong place then usually you don't have to give it to them at that price.

Then it's definitely the responsibility of the consumer to read the sign. As a retail manager, I would make an exception if there was blatantly an error of my staff, ie if there was a whole display of one product with a blatantly wrong sign and price. That is, opposed to if it were an item out of stock that had a price label on a shelf, and some customer left a random item in that product's place giving a wrong price impression.

A comprehensive clarification of these laws, the North Carolina Weights and Measures Act (Chapter 81-A of the North Carolina General Statutes), was passed by the General Assembly in 1975. The act is primarily enforced by the Standards Division of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which tests the accuracy of all weighing and measuring devices and price-scanning systems used in the state. Violators receive stiff monetary penalties,

I can tell you that these guys were always up our ass and if something didn't ring up at the right price or if something was labeled at the wrong price then there was hell to pay. If something was labeled under the wrong price then you give it to the customer at the lowest price. Doing otherwise could get your ass fired, because no district manger wanted to deal with Weights and Measures.

If it's like an entite column of stuff that's been mislabeled, the customer should get that price. Misplaced stuff, f you customer. You know that's not the real price.
