I think that's fair. A company was stealing a product and reselling it online. Fuck those guys.

But why is its googles responsibility to do anything? Can't you just order the site itself taken down?

I just don't like the potential fallout of such a decision. Anything that makes it easier for government to control the internet is something that makes me very uneasy.

Because they also are in charge of a huge portion of online advertisements too.

I could understand ordering it's removal from the Canadian search results but not the global ones.

I would assume the website is based outside of Canada and therefore doesn't need to follow Canadian law.

I would imagine most Canadians would switch to another Search engine without to much care and the more tech literature would figure out how to get around it.

This was pretty fair. People were getting fucked over by another company and google was being very disingenuous in helping deal with it, even though they were the main platform enabling it.

Do you have ANY idea horrifying it is that we might be setting precedent for one country to legally require google to de-index something globally? Are you really having trouble seeing how Russia, or Turkey, or Iran, or Saudi Arabia, or Pakistan, or North Korea, or China might abuse that kind of rule?

Illegal in what country? Homosexuality is illegal in a bunch of countries, I guess Google should globally de-index any website that's pro homosexuality as well. Fundamentally, I think Google needs to be completely neutral as a search web site. Algorithms index sites, all sites, using the same technique. It's not their job, nor should it be, to stuff their results with exceptions based on the many demands of various countries and individuals.

EDIT: As others have mentioned, you go after the site, not Google. If you can't go after the site, go to the country hosting the site and get them to do it.

So you think it's perfectly okay for Google to leave up CP sites and anyone can just google it. Ok.

Not taking the bait, at least not from someone actively campaigning to remove all homosexual material from the Internet.

I never said that. You however won't answer the question. Clearly you think some exceptions should be made, unless you don't.

Google still needs Canadian infrastructure to provide google to Canadians. Unless Google is fine with being blocked in Canada there's nothing beside litigation.

Yeah I wouldn't do it if I were them. I'd release a statement saying that they complied with the Canadian request in 2014, but that they don't believe Canada has the right to regulate their business in other countires, and it ain't happening.

What can they do? Seriously.

This is a very valid option. If they want to go down the authoritarian route they can be treated like China and Iran.
And lol at the shitposters trying to go the CP route. Google is notoriously family friendly. They already remove/put the slightest of risque stuff at the end.
