I'm a terrible storyteller so there will be a tl;dr

Time and setting: Sunday evening at the same bar from my last story involving race at a bar.

Singing karaoke and yucking it up with people per usual. I end up going outside to smoke a cigarette and I'm by myself. Bar wasn't crowded at all. Someone had just finished a Beatles song and this older dude comes outside shortly after, looking for his smokes, which he had left in his car. I don't know how we broke the ice to start talking, but I do remember that the point of where it started was that hearing that song brought up memories from a long time ago, including his service in Vietnam. Guy was 75 years old and was a retired Colonel. We had some great conversation and the guy is pretty intelligent too. It was honestly a very enjoyable conversation.

That is, until his friend who's got to be in his late 40s comes to the table, drunk as shit. He sits down at the table and just starts staring at me wide eyed and off-kilter. Like it wasn't quite a threatening stare, but it was one that was somewhere in between crazy and unnerved. As I go back to continuing the conversation with the colonel, this other guy says to me that I know him. I'm pretty sure I don't, but it could be an explanation for the look. His answer on who he is is that he's "a crazy redneck white boy" or something to that effect.

I'll just say it now, the entire time, the Colonel was embarrassed. Rolling his eyes, shaking his head, telling him to shut up. Whatever. Anyway, I went in to sing Sunglasses at Night while wearing 4 pairs, cause that's how I roll. I came back out and at this point, the dude has taken his shirt off. He has an Iron Cross with a skull in the center on his right pec and is still staring me down, but is obviously Drunk. Capital drunk. The guy gives me shit about having glasses on my head without actually talking about them and I call him out on it. The Colonel is telling him he needs to be treating me as a friendly and needs to stop being destructive. The guy stops for a little bit.

So then he starts on talking about how HE's American and.. I cut him off, telling him that I have 6 generations of documented family in Texas and questioning him on who he thinks he is to be starting with that shit. That actually got him to stop being an asshole, at least to me. He also had finally put his shirt back on by then. The guy ends up going inside and starts hitting on the bartender and making an ass out of himself. She later told me that the guy offered to pay all her bills to get with her, which is not a bad sell, honestly, but the girl is half his age and was wasted.

Anyway, I don't remember what the guy does, but then after the Colonel had been trying to counsel/console him and get him off the ledge, telling him that he's redeemable he does something where the Colonel is basically saying "that's it, you're done. We've gotta go" and something along the lines of "you better pray to God I don't kick your ass for a third time."

tl;dr An Iraqi War vet, who probably spent some time in prison, was drunk as fuck and went shirtless redneck on the patio at a bar and was giving me grief. I stared him straight in the eyes and told him to cut the shit and calm the fuck down and he did. Too bad it was interrupting my conversation with a Vietnam vet.

Also, sorry I suck at telling stories. Well no, I'm not sorry. I'm allowed to have a weakness.

Well, that's funny, but please don't quote BrutaI. I don't want to see his ramblings.

To follow up on this though, the Colonel said that the guy was actually a coward and while he can present himself as scary, he backs down from any challenges. I don't remember when he mentioned that to me, other than it wasn't at the beginning or the end.

And yeah, being out at karaoke is good to people watch, if nothing else, but there are usually some characters somewhere in the mix. This one was definitely atypical though as I hadn't seen him or the Colonel at all before.

Heh, at one of the other shows I've gone to, there's a fat Elvis impersonator in a motorized scooter. I haven't really talked to him all that much, but I don't know if much needs to be said beyond that. He even has a cape too.
