I feel like people don't think of video games when they hear "nerds" as much now as they used to 15 years ago. Nowadays they think of mostly comic book nerds and Star Wars, now that those franchises are out of their dormancies.

Games seem to have become much more mainstream, losing their "nerd" image, especially after the Wii and smart device eras introduced them to new audiences. Look to how deeply Pokemon Go penetrated demographics last year, for example. I just don't think games have nearly as much of a nerdy feeling to them any more. It's also partly because of the internet. When E3 happens, youtube changes their logo and spotlights gaming content. And there are so many streamers who have millions of fans who watch them play games.

That said, superhero movies are by no means niche; they're almost all as mainstream as possible. I just think they've sort of taken over the "nerd" image. I could be wrong though, you tell me. What do people think of today when they think of nerds/geeks?
