I feel like he was a piece of human garbage. Mental illness, CTE, whatever the fuck he had going on, you have to be human garbage to do what he did.
If he'd just offed himself I'd feel terrible for him and his family and what he was going through, but doing what he did to me them makes me have no sympathy for him, just his family.

Have you or someone you know ever experienced TBI? Even long before CTE can settle in, the shit people go through from that is terrifying. I'm not saying he should be forgiven or that he's not culpable, because he certainly had a choice by choosing such a dangerous career, but to categorically write off a sick person for the things they've done from their illness, from their biological make up, is off base. He did a horrible thing, undoubtedly, but chalking him up to a simple piece of trash ignores all of the science involved, the brutality of professional wrestling, the seriousness of TBI and the unwillingness of million and billion dollar industries to take that seriously.

I saw a match he had in WCW against Randy Savage where he smacked his head on the concrete after missing a dive. It wasn't a mistake on his part. It was apparently the agreed upon finish of the match as all of the offense up until that point had been his and, afterward, Savage threw him back into the ring and pinned him with the flying elbow.

It's like pain tolerance is one thing, but there's more than just physical pain involved when you take high impact blows to the head. And it wasn't like it was for some big PPV match or something that they showed a replay of for weeks to follow. He took a four foot dive headfirst onto concrete for a four minute match on the Saturday night show.

Somehow, I remembered that being WCW Saturday Night rather than Monday Nitro. Either way, it was still some unnecessary head trauma.

Whatever Benoit had going on with his family, he could've handled the situation differently. But instead he goes off the deep end and did what he did. He was a great wrestler, but I have no sympathy for him.

^ I know how you feel. I don't doubt that Eddie was a lot of people's favorite, but I can't help but think that some of them lie when they're asked and they're real favorite was Benoit and Eddie is just a code word.

ultimately i think its lead to better consideration of the wrestlers health though. they are so much more careful about head shots.
it could have ended much worse like with how the wwf helped cover up jimmy snuka murdering his girlfriend
