I just started the Wii U version (after I bought Bayo 2 on launch day and then never really played either of them), and I'm just curious as to the learning curve for the gameplay.

Is it one of those "easy to learn, difficult to master" type of deals, or is it a bit of a hurdle to grasp the mechanics?

Easy enough to learn to beat on normal. Then you really need to start knowing the game on harder difficulties

Same with ninja gaiden, dmc type of games

You should be able to get through the game decently on normal, and that took me about 17 hours

After that though you start learning all these little things and how to string together these insane combos and you can just start wrecking stuff on hard and very hard.

So to me atleast like 15 hours before you're really getting the hang of it (I suck though so maybe not a good gauge)

Is the plot supposed to be coherent? I'm on Chapter V, and I have no idea what's going on. None of this makes any sense.

So far, I think the game is... good? It's fun and enjoyable, but there's nothing that's making me find it to be the modern masterpiece many people have made it out to be. Maybe that'll change as I progress, though.

Story is pretty weak. The boss fights and climax are some of the greatest ever created in a video game. Gameplay is is as complicated as you make it. You can spam Y-B-Y attacks and endless dodging or you can go for stylish weapons and combos. Bayonetta has tons of weapons/characters/buffs on top of it's perfect gameplay. It's easily the greatest action game ever made. The only problem with Bayonetta is that every action game you play from now on won't be as good.

I can see this.

This not so much yet, but I have a long way to go.

Yeah, I don't know. This game got really repetitive really fast. I feel like I'm just slogging through one wave after the other of the same enemies, and it's kinda getting boring. I can definitely see it being blown wide open on subsequent playthroughs (I'm assuming there's NG+?) once you've bought all the weapons and stuff, but having to be bored half to death to get there is not good game design IMO.

This is on top of the really shitty QTE sections that come completely unannounced at any point during a cutscene as well as the horrendous camera. These would be easily overlooked, but considering the decline I've experienced already, they're much more grating.

Or maybe it's a me problem, who knows.

Just finished it. Yeah, this game is definitely overrated.

- The final boss is one of, if not the worst boss I've seen in a video game. That fight is what I imagine having a brain aneurysm feels like. The camera, while it was bad throughout the whole game, it was exceptionally horrible here, whipping all around and stopping at the dumbest angles. It was near impossible to tell what the fuck was going on half the time.

- The game gets really repetitive. Fighting the same enemies over and over again, often right after one another in the later game, is not fun.

- I'm sure it's a "hardcore" game with extremely deep combat that takes time to firmly grasp over multiple plays. However, the presentation of the game is so lackluster that I don't want to repeat chapters/verses because I wasn't having that much fun the first time.

- The game is like a kid with ADHD, and I would know since I have it. The gameplay is often and sharply interrupted by cutscenes in which Bayonetta is just killing shit. Why did I need to see that when I was just doing it?

- Worse than the cutscenes, are the dumbass QTEs throughout the whole game. They appear at a second's notice, and if you don't know it in a tenth of a second, you're dead. This carries over to the torture attacks/climaxes/etc, where almost each one uses a different mashing button, and if you don't know what it's gonna be, say goodbye to a bunch of points.

I'll still play 2 at some point. I'd hope it's better than this, but considering I've heard it's just more Bayonetta, I don't have terribly high hopes.

I personally didn't have a problem with them, but it is weird that the option isn't there.

Kamiya's reasoning is garbage too; he literally just said "We didn't see the point."

Honestly, I don't even remember what the plot is about. It's just there to get you from one stage to the next so you can keep beating up angels

That would be totally fine if the game wasn't constantly interrupting my beating up angels with cutscenes progressing an incoherent plot.

Nope, I bought Bayo 2 on launch day for $60 and just got around to playing the first one now. The Bayo 2 disc hasn't even left the case.

oh yeah, feel free to skip them; the story will still make about as much sense as if you had sat through them

2 is definitely better, but based on the issues that you had with the first one, you'll run into a lot of those same issues in 2.

Bayonetta is one of the most forgiving hack n' slash games since dying will reset the encounter/boss phase and the punishment is a score penalty at the end of the level.

I mean, I welcome difficulty, it's just that the game didn't prove to be enjoyable enough to me to make me want to continue to learn it.
