French fitness blogger Rebecca Burgerdied after a whipped cream can exploded onto her chest ... according to her family.

Rebecca, who was popular on Instagram, was killed last weekend in a totally bizarre accident. Her family says the pressurized canister blew up, hit her chest and triggered a heart attack.

The hit reportedly sent her into cardiac arrest, which ultimately led to her death.

The family also posted a pic of a whipped cream canister with a warning about using similar products. They claim "thousands" of defective ones are still in circulation.

Rebecca was 33.

Wow.

I wonder though.

Was it actually defective? Or was it accidentally damaged or kept in too much heat.

IIRC most of these sorts of pressurized canisters(shaving cream for example) have a warning about keeping it under a certain tempature.

Not necessarily. There's been multiple instances of a hit at the right time is going to stop the heart in a way it is very difficult to revive someone. It's always a freak incident in those cases.

I also personally know of a case where someone collapsed at the gym after his workout, went into cardiac arrest and died. Healthy late 30 something. If she had just finished working out that could be a contributing factor.

it's too bad if nobody was nearby to assist her. These sorts of cardiac arrests are fairly simple to reverse since they don't have any underlying pathos preventing the heart from working properly. You just smack it with a jolt of electricity or a literal thump and reset it.

Yeah no, that's not how CPR works. Chest compressions dont restart the heart, they mechanically circulate blood through the body. And the defibrillator shock doesn't restart it either, it actually temporarily stops the heart, which causes the brain to restart it in normal mode, kinda like unplugging and plugging back in your router.

I used to teach CPR.

Commotio cordis typically involves young, predominantly male, athletes in whom a sudden, blunt, nonpenetrating and innocuous-appearing trauma to the anterior chest results in cardiac arrest and sudden death from ventricular fibrillation. The rate of successful resuscitation remains relatively low but is improving slowly. Although commotio cordis usually involves impact from a baseball, it has also been reported during hockey, softball, lacrosse, karate, and other sports activities in which a relatively hard and compact projectile or bodily contact caused impact to the person's precordium. While only 216 instances have been reported to the US Commotio Cordis Registry (as of 2012), [3, 4] this is probably a considerable underestimation of its true incidence since this entity still goes unrecognized in many instances and continues to be underreported.

What probably happened tbh. Coincidentally also the recreational name for our softball team >____>
