My local school is having a one day class and that just seems quick to me. I figure having a certificate for it would be another good addition to my list. This course is only 5 hours and only for one day.

I know nothing about this, but does this sound about right for certification?

Other than that, which of these other items seem like it would be worth getting a certificate for? (Or sounds most useful in life or a job field?)

- Intermediate Word (This sounds like stuff I pretty much know.)
This course is designed for people who have mastered the basics of Word. This session will include: formatting bullets, tabs, and tables, importing and manipulating graphics, creating auto correct entries, advanced formatting of typing, and more.

- Introductory Deep Water Aerobics
In this 4-week deep water aerobics class, learn how to safely wear a flotation belt and use water-friendly strength training equipment. You will perform introductory -level to moderate-level aerobics and will progress in strength training to more difficult movements. Swimming skills are not required, but you will spend 75 percent of your time in deep water and will not be required to go underwater. A short self-administered confidential health questionnaire will need to be completed prior to class participation.

ServSafe Certification
This course covers MA and RI certification. All aspects of food sanitation and safety are reviewed. Topics include the flow of food, proper hygiene, HACCP, pest control, time temperature requirements and food allergies. Certification exam given on the 2nd half of the last class. Textbook included.

There are other certificate programs, but they are online exclusively and that kind of worries me. If you know something worth going for though and it is offered, I might take advantage of it.

So, what certificates would be best to get just to have?

That's interesting. I never knew it was a single day thing. I guess I don't see why not to do it then.

I got my Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification in a single day.

You'll be fine with CPR/BLS :P they're also just one day courses.

What exactly is your purpose for the certification? It lapses after two years, so people usually only take it if a job requires it, not necessarily to beef up a resume.

Took one class when I was working at BCYC....done in about an hour. Didn't even have to actually practice on the dummy. You just had to watch the teacher practice. It was weird that they didn't ask us to I think.

Servsafe is good if you're working in food service. You have to learn everything it covers anyway

The class is like 6-8 hours but you need to study ahead of time

Hmm, valid point. It's funny because I always questioned about those who forget about how to do it, but it didn't dawn on me that it could expire. Yeah then, it wouldn't be ideal.

What would be a permanent certificate worth seeking out? Yeah, I want things for my resume bu at the same time, knowledge that may help me in the future, ya know? I just hate that most of the classes are online though.
