yemmy 06/15/17 2:46:42 PM #20:	an SKS is one of those weird classifications of rifles usually 7.62x39 is not considered a "battle rifle" but an intermediate cartridge like a .223 or 5.56 (assault rifle cartridges or "modern sporting" or "black rifles"). Semi auto's in 7.62x51(.308 back before NATO) and 7.62x54R are both "battle rifles". The SKS is a semi auto only rifle that fires intermediate cartridge. So by definition it isn't an Assault Rifle or Battle Rifle. If the right tuning is done and a lighter stock and optic is added it can be turned into an OK scout gun or even DMR, but a 'stock' SKS doesn't really fit in any category but "sporting rifle" when on the civ market --- p226 <cite>yemmy posted [p:881169650] in firearms e... It was an SKS, I saw it on the news earlier (NBC, I don't watch CBS News). What they are saying about an M4 in the pic is not wrong though. It just isn't the gun that was used. Most soldiers prefer the 20" barrel of the M16 over the 14.5" of the M4 at 500 yards+ though (or a bigger caliber rifle).
