That place looks fucked. Does anyone know about what floor it started on

RT reports the lowest floor on fire is the 2nd, so I'll just assume it was that one.

15 dead
90 in hospital. 20 of them critically
Many more are missing

Fire started on the 2nd floor from a faulty fridge.

Evidently, last year residents claimed the place was a fire trap, with only one entrance and exit. I don't know how it works in the UK, but in America, lawsuits would already be taking flight.

There have been several complaints and issuses revealed about the building over the years

And the sad thing is a lot of buildings in London are the same.

The reality is they are not safe because it would cost billions to make them safe. So they just "Hope nothing happens."

Really sad :/

That's depressing. In the US, if you look at some of the worst disasters in history, the end result is usually changes to make sure they don't happen again. London did the same thing with the great fire once upon a time too.

The building would have been shut down by the fire Marshall in America.

I don't know. I bet a bunch of us builldings aren't really up to any code either by negligence or evasion.

I mean that's how 9/11 happened

To be fair, against most natural disasters, the World Trade Center would have been fine. It's just that the last time a building in New York was hit by a plane was World War II, in the fog, by accident. They didn't expect someone to look at the Japanese Kamikazes and go "Great idea, let's do it to make a point." No one did.

Yes. Remember the WTC was literally bombed and was mostly okay afterwards. It was top notch construction. But no building is invulnerable and a 777 jet crash is a lot more destructive than a fridge fire.

Seriously.

Like what's the issue?

The parking deck was fucked but the rest of the building was still there and only 6 people died.

Compared to 9/11 that's not even a blip on the radar.

They also remained standing after suffering significant structural damage, and had to burn for about an hour before becoming structurally unstable and collapsing.

The outside of that building was something highly flammable.
Plus, there's no way that building had a sprinkler system or an alarm system

Yes, it was 'designed' as a 'green' building... but when it went up it not only cost a huge deal of loss, it pushed so much into the atmosphere.

I don't know if London has different building standards then we do, but I hope the building owner/landlord gets sued out of the ass

And what's likely to happen, is a bunch of low-income flats get declared "unsafe", then end up demolished and replaced with luxury condos or something.

That's "improving"?

It looks new and shiny instead of dingy rock! It's sooo modernist!

Seriously if there's one styling trend I cannot fucking stand it's modern. No furniture in the "Modern" style looks in anyway comfortable and if it's not in a specially designed space to match it, it looks like shit.
