Are bats needed? That is up for debate. I live in the mountains, so I often sit on my porch at sundown and watch the thousands of bats fly overhead preparing for their nighttime feast, and it's an enjoyable experience to see all of them overhead.

Also, the larvae of mosquitoes also known as bloodworms, which is a primary diet of many species of fish and juvenile water turtles, as mosquito larvae develops in water, including lakes and ponds. They are also frozen and offered as a food for household aquarium fresh and salt water fish species.

While they are a pain in the ass they are a necessary food source for many other creatures.
