Or were they just never good to begin with and all I enjoy from their previous albums is nostalgia?

As an LP fan, I enjoyed Minutes to Midnight, and I really enjoyed their next album, A Thousand Suns. It kinda happened at a pivotal time in my life so it reminds me of certain things. Living Things I liked at the time, now I just look back and see it as mediocre. The Hunting Party I really like. It's a great album imo. Their latest...

idk

I only listened to A Thousand Suns and Living Things once since I was disappointed in them, and after giving each another chance, I still don't like A Thousand Suns (but the few good songs it has, I enjoy), but I like Living Things.
It helps not trying to listen for their old sound.

Waiting for the End, Wretches and Kings, Iridescent, Burning in the Skies.

But Waiting They Come For Me isn't too bad, but not good either, in my opinion.

Edit: giving Burning in the Skies more credit.

I'm 50/50 on their new album. There are some catchy songs that I enjoy, but can't get past the fact that it's so different from their previous work

Linkin Park just kept changing up their sound since Minutes to Midnight. They are chasing the pop crowd, but at the cost of distancing themselves from the original fans. I wouldn't say they dropped off, because they hit #1 with their latest album One More Light.

I wouldn't really say their last few albums were good, they just had a few alright songs on them.

They've never really been a legitimately good band but more just like a sort of guilty pleasure thing that you turn your brain off to and enjoy. I've personally enjoyed everything they've made up until their newest one.
And I think A Thousand Suns is really underrated by the fanbase.

A Thousand Suns really suffered by the fact it had a lot of filler tracks due to the point of album was that it was meant to be a album you listen through instead of having good singles. Plus a lot of the songs don't really good on their own.

Idk,the only two songs I don't really care for are Wretches and Kings, and the last track, which I usually skip. All the other songs I enjoy

Their new album is shit and even in what's considered their prime they never came close to touching the Stones prime in quality. Plus the Stones fell off pretty hard too and put out their fair share of garbage so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here.

I don't consider Reanimation a full on studio album. It's a remix album. I enjoy the album, but when people say "this is LP's seventh album.." it's because they aren't considering Reanimation an album in the same sense.

War is pretty cool, I'd listen to an entire punk LP album tbh. Guilty All The Same is good to if for no other reason than I can't hate anything with Rakim in it.
Until It's Gone was the worst song in their entire studio discography until the new album.

People who want hybrid theory again are funny. They made that as teens. They're in their 40s now. They can't make angsty teen music anymore. That's just silly.

Plus, mainstream rock has been dead as fuck for a while.

Chester was in his early 20's when HT came out and all they make is immature angsty music, the only difference is that the sound is different, they're under the delusion that they've somehow matured when they haven't.
And look at a band like Weezer, White Album was one of the best albums of 2016 and their best in awhile, but it's immature af and feels like something they could've released in the 90's.
And people aren't really saying they miss the old LP lyrics (because they were shit then too) just the sound. And are you trying to say there's some kind of age cap where once you hit 40 you can't make loud aggressive music anymore? Because I can easily cite dozens of examples otherwise.

You're acting like their first album was this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFkzRNyygfk

And they matured into this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTAU7lLDZYU

But in reality they've just gone sideways from this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXYiU_JCYtU

To this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dmQ3QWpy1Q

And yeah Numb is off Meteora but it and HT are more or less the same thing and same sound so who cares. And honestly Id ague this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2H4l9RpkwM
'
Is more mature than that Kiiara garbage.
