I wonder if there was ever truly a respected loner or if it was always just someone that people sort of just avoided/talked shit behind their backs.

I became an ironically "respected" loner in senior year, as in people gave up on outright bullying me in favor picking on the underclassmen. All of the other awkward quiet kids eventually got friends, joined extracurriculars, etc. but I was genuine.

The cool kids would just make jokes about how "mature" and "above things" I was instead. A couple of hot girls would always sit next to me knowing I wouldn't have the balls to try to hit on them. The student government chose me for the yearbook's as the most silent student, which was my only appearance in the book because I didn't bother to pay for a portrait or anything. I don't even own a copy of the book I was pictured in lmao.
