Ship package to town 10 minutes away from me
Delay package for a day when it's already 10 minutes away
Send package to town 30 minutes away

Goddamn why is the mail system in the US so terrible

even worse is I paid for rush shipping (pretty much the equivalent of overnight if you send via Fedex I guess) and this was shipped on Friday, so really it should have been here Monday.

Seriously, I am not ordering anything that has to be mailed unless it's from Amazon from now on

fedex is awful about this.

UPS on the other hand, as soon as you click the checkout button they're driving their entire fucking vehicle through your front door to throw your super necessary items at you and make you sign the little pad... one day they even came on the same day i ordered. i was like um wtf... not that i'm not happy but like... how

UPS has a chip on their shoulder

Fedex and USPS though are just "well you get it when you get it, don't like it? then use another servic-oh wait"

Courier and express delivery are unsustainable business models due to the incidental nature of the business.

The ones that hire contractors instead of having payroll staff are even worse. Those businesses rely on the hope that a random contractor will be willing to take on the job. They rely on this despite promising delivery times.

I know one contractor had to choose between either delivering five parcels all in relatively disperse regional areas (in total about 5 hours of driving) paid at $10 per drop or have no job for the day. He was also accountable for his own fuel expenses.

I think DHL has most staff on payroll so they might be a more reliable bunch. They're a bit expensive though.

My experience with UPS has been overall positive too.

They managed to deliver a parcel from Detriot to Australia in three business days. Three! That's like 10,000 miles.

i hate when even when i do free shipping they wait 5 days before they even send the item and then i get it in like 2 days. even if they ship USPS they're paying like 5x more for priority shipping and then just waiting to send it out.

FedEx is complete shit in my area too.

They're unreliable, they never leave the tags on my door and on multiple occasions they've delivered to the wrong building and my package was lost/stolen.

FedEx has nothing to do with the US "mail system". USPS is the "mail system". And yes FedEx sucks.

Ugh you just reminded me there is never any telling what shipper the seller will use.

Now I wish I could go back in time and pay more for those things I ordered on Monday at a physical store because there's a chance it was FedEx.

I hate USPS, they keep shoving my packages into my mailbox, damaging the packaging and making it a pain in the ass to pull out of the mailbox. I wish UPS did all deliveries, as they will leave my packages on my doorstep. Or, you know, if they see my car, they at least knock or ring the doorbell.
