That is certainly the narrative being spun around the whole situation, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the situation is far more nuanced than that, and if you knew the whole story you'd probably understand where Cathy was coming from. Not that you'd necessarily take her side, but you probably wouldn't think her the nutter she's coming off as.

Everyone has a right to free speech, but people also have the right to not watch her shows anymore if they're outraged. Advertisers have a right to back out. She should've thought about her reputation before she acted on such a stupid stunt.

It's hard to feel super bad when there's footage of her predicting the outrage jokingly. I guess she didn't expect the left to turn against her as well.

Anyone that even thinks its acceptable to either passively defend or deflect what she did, is a legit total idiot.

This isn't the victim olympics, its not about any other situation. She took a disturbing dead eyed pic with a graphic depiction of the current presidents severed head like something straight out of ISIS. It was in the poorest of tastes.

Whatever ted nugent did, guess what, he's subjected to the same "hollywood can choose to shun him" treatment. Luckily for ted, he seems to be his own man, and he doesn't work for cnn and doesn't have a bunch of sponsorships and gigs he desperately needs to survive. He can get away with that because he's a known nutty hick type guy, and people already wrote him off decades ago. Kathy on the other hand has to conduct herself in a professional manner, otherwise yes she too will be written off cast out and living in the goddamn boonies

I never agree with silencing free speech of any kind. Even the most abhorrent, as long as it is non-violent.

I am legitimately bothered with the Millennial mindset of avoiding or silencing those they disagree with. We can't be a functionally free society and a modern democratic culture without allowing people to express their opinions.

Sure, if it pisses you off, you can go somewhere else. If you don't like what someone says, don't listen to them. I don't like Bill Maher, but I would never want him to be taken off the air because I disagree with his repugnant ass.

But yeah, the photo she took was in incredibly poor taste and she's reaping the social consequences of it. This is the politically-correct world we've constructed, where dark satire isn't allowed because it offends people. And, perhaps somewhat ironically, it's people like her that actually helped create it.

I think a big part of the difference is GWAR and SP are trying to offend people. It's their thing, and they own it. A promoter who books a GWAR show knows what they're getting. The people cancelling Kathy Griffin's shows didn't ask for this.
