I've had him his whole life, but I just got the insurance like two years ago. I got it mainly for the dental cleaning, because that alone without the insurance is like 500$. They didn't ask about preexisting conditions or anything like that. After I signed up they took his blood work and his liver numbers were high, and he was prescribed medication. That was free too.
