you're not far off

the grammar is very difficult to parse, mainly because there are a lot of statements that are ambiguous at face value and often don't immediately indicate a problem until several passes over the code have been made, or even until linking. the official language spec is also long enough to make Tolstoy blush

I've run into a couple problems in the past with complex templates where I have to add in conditional compilation via the preprocessor just to make the code friendly to both gcc and msvc (mostly because msvc took "liberties" with the official spec)
