http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/saudi-arabia-behead-disabled-man-munir-adam-protests-forced-confession-torture-death-sentence-court-a7758041.html
A court in Saudi Arabia has upheld a death sentence for a disabled man who was arrested after he attended a protest, campaigners have said.

Munir al-Adam, 23, was beaten so badly he lost hearing in one ear during demonstrations in the Shia dominated east of the country in 2012.

Human rights campaigners have slammed the decision, calling it “shocking” and demanding the White House intervenes.

Mr Adam was sentenced to death in a secretive trial in the country’s Specialised Criminal Court last year. Now, an appellate court has decided the sentence should be carried out, despite international criticism.

Mr Adam only has the opportunity to appeal the decision once more before King Salman signs his death warrant.

“Munir’s case is utterly shocking – the White House should be appalled that our Saudi allies tortured a disabled protester until he lost his hearing then sentenced him to death on the basis of a forced ‘confession’,” said Maya Foa, the director of Reprieve, a legal justice charity.

Mr Adam was tortured by police, despite his medical records detailing his disabilities, and forced to sign a false confession, campaigners said. He already suffered impaired vision and hearing, which stem from a skull fracture after a a childhood accident.

He was charged with violent acts at a protest, a Reprieve spokesman told The Independent, but no evidence was produced at his trial other than the signed confession – made under duress, activists say.

That is what happens when you let fairytales run a country. It in no way justifies hating on all Muslims everywhere.

The vast majority of non-Muslims do not defend Sharia and violence in Islam. They defend Muslims that aren't currently committing violent crime being allowed to think whatever they want, so long as they can do passively. You know, because the modern world is supposedly free unlike the Middle East. We aren't better than the Saudis because we stop short of beheading people when we suppress them. We are better because we don't supposedly suppress people at all.

Of course they don't. Their narrative that these beliefs are only held by "fringe radicals" withers away when you point out that it's the national law in most of the Arab Muslim countries. After this, they'll just call you a racist for even bringing up the issue.

Okay, like, it's obviously bad that the guy got tortured and is going to die, but what do these groups expect the White House to do? Send them a sternly worded letter? You can't exactly meddle in the affairs of a sovereign nation too much.

Or do they want us to declare a war over one guy? Because that's the only way to "intervene" and force them to stop, and that's an awful idea. You can't put trade restrictions on them, they have the oil. Yeah, I know, that's not fair. Unfortunately, the country that controls a major portion of the worlds most precious resource gets special treatment, that's just how the world works.

I'm just really confused as to how these people think the White House can do anything to stop this. Or is this just a "Trump didn't do anything to save this poor man, impeach him!" thing in the making? There are few things I care about less then politics, so I don't really see those kinds of things.

Well, sure. There are absolutely a wide swath of actions to be taken. However, these human rights groups want that man to not be put to death.

As such, it is a binary resolution. Either the man dies, or he doesn't. The only way to to make sure he doesn't die is to physically stop it, i.e. war. Again, Saudi Arabia plays by special rules. You can't place trade restrictions on the country that controls the one substance that that runs yours, and the Saudis have shown time and again that they do not care how we view their country or it's customs and actions.

Not saying that it's wrong or right that they get to play by their own rules, merely stating that it is how things are.

Well...
The binary resolution is quite blurry. A White House intervention doesn't need to be "physically stop it". It can be any range of actions designed to improve the human rights situation in SA. Of course, it would be great if that one guy didn't get executed, but cases like this are common in SA, and human rights groups call on the White House (and every other government) to do something about it every time a case gets any sort of publicity. And all the other time as well.
As for what can be done, considering the US's dependence on Saudi oil? Well, that's a very complex issue in itself, and again, the answer isn't binary.

Ah. I think we might be arguing the same point from different sides. I was just talking about the fact that this one specific guy has almost no chance of being saved, and how that fact will likely be 'blamed' on the administration as though they had a chance to stop it.

Obviously, everyone can agree that any step taken towards the Saudis curbing their human rights violations is a good thing, but this guy is dead.
