Current Events > I ran a red light by accident earlier today

It was completely my fault and I have no excuses, I wasn't paying attention and I thought there was no light on the street I was on and I made two cars slam on the brakes while they were turning at the intersection. And to make matters worse, I honked at them like an asshole, thinking I had the right of way because I didn't know the light was there until after I drove past and saw it behind me.

Now I feel bad and horribly embarrassed about myself. Fortunately, I didn't hit anything or anyone and nothing bad like that happened, but I feel really ashamed and embarrassed right now for being a stupid asshole. I think I'll just stay home all weekend.

Anyone else ever do some dumb stuff like that?

I accidentally ran over a red light around... 13 years ago?

No other cars in the area... except a police car coming in the opposite direction who saw the whole thing >->;

I actually did that once but it was like 3am and I wasn't even drinking. I had so much on my mind I just went through the light somehow. Not a car in sight so it didn't matter, but I realized it as I was doing it and was like.... "the fuck did I just do?"

I have road rage (in the way that I scream and curse and insult the person driving like mad, I don't do any actions)

So one time at an intersection I had the right of way and the other car just didn't care, I got so damn mad screamed and cursed, then at the next intersection I accidentally did the same mistake he did. I really felt embarrassed and stupid.

I did that once because there was a blinking yellow light right before the intersection and I didn't even notice the intersection light was yellow

Yep. A NKL but still pathetic that it was modded in the first place. "Illegal activities", so illegal that the cop I pulled up beside at the light today, then proceeded to run the red light only honked his horn at me, nothing else.

Yeah, I feel you. I'm not the type to get embarrassed easily, especially over simple mistakes, but when I'm actively being stupid and an asshole, I really feel it. Hearing that other people have done similar stuff does make me feel better though, knowing that I'm not the only one to make dumb mistakes.

Eh, everyone makes mistakes. If you're new to driving it's even more understandable. Just learn from it and don't do it again

Although generally speaking, posting about your mistakes on here isn't a good idea. People are just gonna kick you while you're down cause what even is empathy

I'm 19 and I've been driving for about 3 years. Not that long, but long enough that its still embarrassing. Plus I honked at the guy in road rage and that's the worst part lol, I feel bad.

The first red light I ever ran was like that. Not to sound like I do it a lot, this is only the second one I've ever ran, but the first one was at night going down a freeway. There was a light in front of me and I thought it was green but when I drove into the intersection, my friend yelled that I just ran a red light. None of the cars even moved out yet, so I think it just turned red as I drove through it, but I slammed on my brakes for a second then noticed there were no cars coming, so I just kept driving through. That was only like 2 years ago lol.

I almost ran a red light before. I was hanging with a friend with 'make out benefits' and she didn't feel like driving so asked me to. I pulled up to a highway entrance intersection. There was traffic light in front of me and another traffic light like 20 yards behind that. I was talking to the friend and saw green flash I looked up saw the light green and started driving.


The traffic light in the back turned green and the cars of the highway were blaring their horns. I drove to my house and she hopped in the driver's seat and said "you're too tired and almost killed us I'll see you tomorrow"

I think I accidentally ran a red in NYC once in heavy traffic. I was so focused on trying to squeeze in behind the car in front of me that I forgot the light had changed. Thankfully nothing bad happened. It was the only time I had ever driven there, I was dropping off a rental car for someone.
