In the books most likely baring a prophecy twist.

In the show maggy didn't reference the valourqor or whatever IIRC.

Everything in the books suggests Jaime, but that's one of the many things they've butchered in the TV adaptation. Jaime no longer trusts nor loves Cersei in the books.

Yeah, it happened earlier in the books, but it's clearly true in the show now too.

It referenced the three children dying but I'm pretty sure it didn't reference her death by the Valourquor. I'll see if I can confirm though.

you are right, there is no actual mention of the valonquar in the show. i kinda get the feeling that they are still gonna treat it as part of the prophecy though. maybe they forgot that they didn't include it.

That's my thoughts as well. It's been a bit since I saw the episode but I remember wondering why they brought in the prophecy only to leave out the part about her death. Because of how long it's been though it was just me forgetting that part.

in the books, i believe it will be more complex and Cersei will off herself before the prophecy can be fulfilled, because everything else about the prophecy besides her violent death will be fulfilled at that point and she will choose to end it her own way instead of waiting for the violent end.

in the show though, they don't give a fuck about subtlety, nuances, or layered narratives, so it will be at face value and either Tyrion or Jaime will do, the former of which will be the obvious choice and the latter will be the "surprise" choice.

it is strongly hinted that cersei is going to try to pull an aerys and take the whole city with her in her suicide attempt, and jaime is going to stop it by killing her. it bookends his whole story which started in the exact same way.

it's far more muted in the show. up til the second to last episode he was firmly on her side, and all we see to confirm his shift is his facial expression

but considering that their son killed himself over her actions, i think it's not beyond reason to conclude that jaime blames her for his death and is going to kill her for that alone

Pretty sure it became evident that Jamie realized the level of cruelty by Cersei in the season finale.

He arrives and is shocked to see a nuked King's Landing and mean mugs her at the coronation.

They'll probably include a scene like in season 3 where Jamie recounts killing The Mad King to save King's Landing from being destroyed by wildfire.

fair enough, that would make sense, but the Aerys parallels really only fit with Jaime. there have been a lot of comparisons especially in the show of late of Cersei and Aerys, but in truth if you read about the history of the Targaryen dynasty, she has much more in common with Maegor the Cruel than Aerys the Mad. so i don't think hypothesizing about the end of her character arc based on the events surrounding Aerys is necessarily productive. at least not for the books.

the reason for the aerys parallels is way more surface than that, both books and show:

she is obsessed with wildfire.

she's not a complex character. she's not going to get a complex ending.

books more than show demonstrate that cersei is an arrogant, paranoid fool who is living up to the reputations of the despots who were killed before her time. so there's a more detailed justification in the books, too. but the wildfire obsession alone will be enough in the show.

she is a complex character though. and she is not mad like Aerys, she doesn't hear voices in her head. she is cruel for cruelty's sake, like Maegor, not because of madness. and like Maegor she has been in conflict with the Faith and destroyed a sept.

i am waiting for something to reveal to us that aerys' "voices" were actually bran fucking things up

but hearing voices aside, she shares aerys' paranoia and mistrust of those who wish her well, as well as his delusional beliefs about right to rule.

and while i agree that her conflict with the church resonates with maegor, he's not really a significant part of the story within the story; aerys is, and both joffrey and robert were compared to aerys. the implication is all of the present line of kings are doomed to echo one or another of aerys' character flaws--cersei his paranoia, joffrey his cruelty, robert his incompetence.

This, plus in the books, Cersei bangs multiple other people and this betrayal of him is part of what makes Jaime turn on her.

Cersei is a narcissist who doesn't really love anyone other than herself. Jaime is the closest thing to a male version of herself, which is why she loved him. His changes, both physical and emotional, make him much less like her which makes her much less interested.

My gut says Jaime too, it's too fitting for his character and the prophecy to not be him. Although, the show is known for throwing surprises out. The only thing I know of that played out exactly as most expected was the Jon situation.

the books strongly push the inattentive reader to assume it would by tyrion, and cersei herself is 100% certain it would be tyrion. i think it being jaime is the "surprise".

Because knowing the writers they'd have her show up just moments after the deed was done.

It's definitely going to be Jaime. If you're expecting a curveball, you will most likely be disappointed. This is the thing that the internet never seems to get: a writer like George is not going to throw all of his careful foreshadowing out the window just to pull a what-a-tweest on people like us with way too much time on our hands to figure things out and over-speculate. Granted, in this case it's more George's fault than ours that we've had way too much time to think about it, but whatever.

Her madness or lack thereof notwithstanding, Cersei is deeply obsessed with wildfire. There is a particular passage in AFfC during the burning of the Tower of the Hand where she (if I'm remembering correctly) bathes herself in its light and becomes enamored with its cleansing power. My prediction is There will be a great battle, the Lannisters will lose, Cersei will order Qyburn to set the whole city ablaze, Jaime will be driven to fury by history repeating and kill Cersei - probably with his golden hand - but it will be too late for him to stop the city from burning. King's Landing's destruction was forshadowed in S2, where Dany has her vision in the Tower of the Undying where she walks through a ruined and snow-covered Iron Throne room. It's already snowing in King's Landing by the time Book 5 concludes, so we'll have to see if the show allows the seasons to catch up like that.
This would also be a very fitting moment in Dany's story, seeing as how her sights have always been set on KL and yet it's a ruin by the time she conquers it.
