Who is the Last Jedi? In the trailer, what do you think Luke meant by, "It's time for the Jedi to end"? Luke asks Rey "What do you see?" and Rey responds, "I see light... dark... balance"

And then there's this poster, which shows Rey wielding a blue saber (signifying Jedi) but it changes to red at the top (signifying Sith):

n1TJRaS

So what are your theories?

I'm thinking that maybe the Jedi realize that the force is always trying to balance itself, so maybe some sort of Jith or Sedi is what Rey becomes? I duno

unless Disney is ignoring a central point to the universe, the Force can only be in balance when the Dark Side is destroyed

Probably that the Jedi way is outdated and doesn't work, leading to imbalance. There is no light or dark side, people always fall between the two.

That's what has been said and taught, but what if the truth is that balance means an equality between light and dark?

disney is pretty clearly discarding a lot of the lore

it could be as mundane as his faith being shaken to as new-lore-y as "the jedi way is flawed and you must use both light and dark of the force or you'll always be tempted by the dark" or some such nonsense

Luke teaches her a "gray" way and it progressively gets darker and darker until she can't take it anymore and realizes he's actually a dark sider. Big lightsaber fight at the end, Luke dies before Mark Hamill does.

I really hope Disney doesn't follow that edgy teen bullshit of saying that balance is when they have equal amounts of light and dark

Luke had already gone to the dark side in Return of the Jedi, so I'm expecting him to be full dark by now.

It's revealed that R2 is actually inhabited by a Jedi spirit that has been driving the events of all the films. Everyone realizes that they are JINOs and acknowledge that R2 is really the last one.

You guys have to keep in mind that there's not going to be an "end" to the story. They're going to make as many films as they possibly can to make as much money as they can. The only thing I would count on for the next few entries is a lot of vague stuff being dragged on.

@Hinakuluiau
I'm curious, do you mean edgy teen bullshit in context of the SW universe? Or do you mean actual Taoism is correct and real world philosophy that perceives balance between light and darkness as true balance to be bullshit?

Within the SW universe
I have no problem with taoism and don't think it's edgy, I just think that anyone who is a Sith apologist or thinks that balance needs to be maintained by making the Jedi and Sith equals has fallen for some kind of edgy bullshit that everyone comes up with at 14 when watching Star Wars

Edit: Or also the whole grey jedi stuff. There's the Qui-Gon way, which would be fine. Then there's the idea of "I can totally use the dark side and the light" which reeks of fanfic
I liked TFA, but ever since the trailer for TLJ came out I'm worried Disney is listening to fans who haven't actually matured emotionally

Also it's worth noting that by this standard you can still say that Anakin "brought balance to the force."

Before, there were lots of Jedi and two Sith.

But eventually there were only two Jedi (Obi Wan and Yoda) and two Sith.

Balance!
