this happened to some other dude and his shitty roommate on another board on here.

he pretty much took an inventory of each game that was missing w/ price, got a total, and reported it to the cops and now the roommate has to pay that amount.

How did he do this? I've already thought of coming up with a total, but how did he get the cops to help? And how did he calculate the prices?

Sami1000 posted...
You could google and check sites where you can sell things. See if someone is selling lots of games you had before, and you might be even so lucky that he tries to sell all of those in one pile. If you'd see someone selling all your lost games somewhere you'd know his info. Even if there's no personal information i'm sure police can investigate and find out who the person is.

And now we get to the part where calling police would either be useless or useful. If you don't have any way to prove you had those games, controllers and stuff police can't probably do anything. It might get really ugly. Its very risky move without proof.

This is not a bad idea, though a bit of a shot in the dark. Definitely worth doing, though. Ebay, Craigslist, Amazon... any other obvious ones? I don't do much online shopping.

Yeah, I keep it at 74 most times. He's done this a few times. The electricity bill has been decent so far thankfully, though you know it's getting hotter. I've been using it more frequently myself as well.

Ok, I got it.

Kill his cat. And hang it from his ceiling fan. The turn the ceiling fan ON low. Leave a note in cat blood on the wall. "Return what's mine"

And next to that, tape a Polaroid of the other cat, which you will have caged and hidden in case he doesn't get the message. After he returns the games, he goes on the fan too. Then kill the other cat as well. Hope this helps

the killing of the cat vaguely reminds me of the Kurt Vonnegut novel Cat's Cradle where they kill... a roommates cat? and hang a sign around its neck that reads "Meow".

Unless I'm making that up, its been like 20 years since I read that book.

I am also 27 and grow facial hair quickly and hate it as much as body hair.

I don't exercise regularly aside from biking and walking everywhere. I do eat pretty well most of the time.

But this is all besides the point.

If we limit it to one cat, it does help that I said one is an asshole and one is really nice.

But honestly no. That's a terrible idea. It'd smell awful.

Went on another spelunking expedition. Was able to look around a bit more thoroughly this time, but not as much as I would like. His room is a mess and he has a bunch of haphazard piles of cardboard boxes that you'd need to be a jenga master to safely sift through. His closet door wheel also looks a bit busted so I didn't want to move it much. From what little I could see there was no evidence of any of my stuff.

Okay since the cat idea is out (the one I proposed, not the violent one) how about same thing but with some of his stuff? Like take some of his things, store them somewhere off site, and when he mentions it say that some of your stuff is gone too and you must have been robbed.

Or you can just get something incredibly rancid and hide it in his room. I suggest a durian, they smell awful and when he does find it odds are he'll wonder what the hell it is.

Answer to the first question is earlier in the thread. Basically no.

Answer to the second is no, and we have a fairly secure apartment (second floor, corner, two doors). The neighborhood is not the best and there have been trespassers in the complex in the past but never in the area of the actual units. Also the games are not in plain view normally so you would need to be able to come inside and be looking around to spot them (the handhelds especially are usually literally in a closed nightstand drawer).

Sure was, except the key difference being I let my lifelong friend borrow the N64 for a brief period with my games, having done so in the past with no problem. He sold them to a local used game store; a friend of mine caught one of the games in there with my last name written on the cartridge and gave me a heads up. They'd been in just a week ago to trade them in and over half were already sold.

Long story short, I let the dude know I wasn't playing around and threatened legal action and his stupid ass and girlfriend believed I had lawyer money and although I didn't get the $600ish required to actually replace it all, I did squeeze $300 out of them and brand new copies of Majora's Mask 3D and Ocarina of Time 3D that he stole as well.

I considered that good enough considering there was no way in hell to ever get my original games back. He got $150 for trading my N64 and 20+ games in. The store turned around and sold just Snowboard Kids 2 for $55. I want to throw up every time I think about it.

And then I just get over it and use my PC but mother fucker I wouldn't piss on fire to put him out.

I hope you find them, some of them, whatever you do.

You know the messed up thing in my situation was the store had camera footage of him bringing in the games all at once, and the system, and my 3DS games, and sold them. Yet the store, even after filing a police report (to obtain the footage and games sold) would not give the information on the people they sold them to. Would've been a hassle to go hunt them down anyway but I would've at least appreciated that. Meh.

Good luck my friend.

Wow you guys are all just making this convoluted as hell. Don't listen to any dumb macho man advice about attacking him (although from your replies I know you won't). But at the same time you're ignoring all possible advice. The best advice was to call the police and don't immediately accuse your room mate. He'll get scared and probably return them or come clean, and if not you can privately tell the police you suspect him. This is your only reasonable option. If you can't do that then your stuff is gone and you need to just accept it. That's all I can say.

You really just need to call the cops, even if you don't feel comfortable directly implicating your roommate.

Been through this shit with my family plenty of times and he isn't going to stop, let alone actually own up to it, unless you get a higher authority involved.

He "might" be on drugs, they usually go for high-valued items to get their fix.

Video games is a big one..

This is why I'm glad I had good roommates (though they had separate rooms), and I was able to keep my stuff safe.

I doubt it. Right now he's actually making money from being on medical trials, so that would probably not be workable.

This doesn't make sense why he'd steal your games. There's also the chance that one of you guys forgot to lock the door when you left, and someone walked in and stole your games. You could argue that why nothing else was lost, but if it was a one person, remember that there's limits how much one person can carry. Its not like he would buy a truck and hire a friend to loot your whole home, lol.

Also, about online searching. Just go into any site where you can sell stuff. There's probably search bar there. Write your more rare games there, and hopefully there will be day, location and time somewhere which shows when it was added there.
